  • A completely road legal, 1000 Bhp Hayabusa hits 436 km/h

We have seen a lot of speed records being broken and made after the Bonneville Speed Week and events as such, like a 67-year old man crossing 300 mph on a 2003 GSX-R1000. But here, we have a Hayabusa which has a turbocharged, 1000 bhp engine, is completely road-legal, hitting 436 km/h! Just to put that in perspective, it is faster than a Bugatti Veyron Supersport which did somewhere around 268 mph (~431 km/h).

Big CC Racing’s turbo Busa, as it is called, averaged 271.8 mph over a quarter mile. The feat was achieved at the Straightliners top speed event at Elvington, Yorkshire. The rider, Phil Wood nearly hit 272 mph on a quarter-mile, smashing the record and that too with a fully road-legal Hayabusa.

This specific motorcycle was ‘allowed’ to make around 670 bhp for the run. ‘Allowed’ here implies to the fact that the boost of the turbocharged engine was limited to make the bike more ‘rideable’ and to alleviate traction issues. The engine is based on a 1,547cc drag racing setup, with a silenced road exhaust, and a variable boost controller.

The motorcycle is taxed and insured and the bike is regularly ridden on the street by Phil or Sean Mills from Big CC.

Now that is a serious number!
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
