The KTM Duke 125 for sale in foreign markets has been manufactured in India since its birth at Bajaj’s Chakan plant. The updated model aka the 2018 KTM Duke 125 is a spitting image of the KTM Duke 390 whether it is the bodywork or the headlights with the exception of stickering. And mechanically too it is a very sound little motorcycle with a dual-channel ABS, and engine management system from Bosch. The tiny 125cc engine makes 14.8 Bhp of power which is sent to the rear-wheel via a slick 6-speed gearbox. The chassis is the same trellis frame on use in the bigger Dukes.
When it came to launching this baby Duke in India, KTM have always had the same stance that introducing the bike here in India won’t be practical as it would be priced too high. And we agreed to that as well because with the aforementioned features, the bike is bound to be priced high for the 125cc segment which is essentially commuter segment in India. A performance motorcycle in that segment looks like an exciting prospect but the same cannot be said from a business standpoint.
But now, we have the information that KTM India is working towards the launch of the KTM Duke 125 in India and that too probably by next month. What’s going to be a bit of an anomaly is the KTM Duke 200 which still goes with the older styling and the KTM Duke 125, KTM Duke 250 and KTM Duke 390 following the new design language.
The idea seems like a good one because even in the 125cc commuter segment, some people do long for a motorcycle much sportier than the current offerings. Although the new KTM Duke 125 does not seem like very exciting to a lot of people, but we are certainly excited. As they say, it’s more fun (and feasible) going fast on a smaller bike than the bigger ones and it’d be fun wringing the ears of this little monster. Not to mention that this will be a great addition to the ‘humdrum’ 125cc segment.
The fact that if this motorcycle is launched in India and if it is successful, some ‘other’ manufacturers might try their hand out in this segment. After all, won’t it be fun to see the likes of Yamaha R125, Ninja 125, Z125 and Aprilia RS125 ganging up on this baby duke?
