Why did we state that Aprilia did not have to look around for an answer? They already had an ‘1100cc’ engine ready to join the fight. We are talking about the 1,078cc unit from the Tuono 1100. The 2019 Aprilia RSV4 Factory gets the same basic 65 degree V-4 layout as the RSV4 1000, but with an 81mm bore and the same 52.3mm stroke. Aprilia have been able to extract 217 Bhp out of the engine which is a massive figure and more importantly, more than the 215 Bhp of the Panigale V4. It also makes 122 Nm of torque and weighs 199 kg fully fueled courtesy a lighter Li-ion battery from Bosch and a street legal titanium exhaust from Akrapovic.
The brilliant performance is controlled by the ‘already stated-fantatsic’ electronics package. Apart from this the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory gets the Brembo Stylema calipers (just like the Panigale V4), top of the line Öhlins forks, shocks and steering dampers. It also gets the MotoGP style wings or winglets on the fairing for more downforce and imoroved stability on straights. In addition to that, the downforce generated by these ‘winglets’ also prevents wheelies and helps in braking too.
Aprilia will keep producing the 1000cc RSV4 to keep it cool with the race homolgation bodies. It will carry forward the name Aprilia RSV4 RR and that one is rather unchanged for 2019 (except for the graphics). It just seems that the Panigale V4 did not get a lot of time in the sun as the RSV4 1100 Factory seems like a very serious contender that won’t forget about the ‘displacement advantage’ used by the Panigale V4 anytime soon!
