    Default BMW’s EICMA idea: 2019 S1000RR, R1250GS Adventure and R1250 R & RS

    2019 BMW S1000RR

Finally, after a boatload of spyshots and a truckload of speculations, BMW has finally taken the covers off of the 2019 BMW S1000RR. Like in the spyshots, it misses out on the signature asymmetrical headlamps but looks gorgeous nonetheless. This motorcycle is taking the German brand back into WorldSBK racing, with help from Tom Sykes and the Shaun Muir Racing team.

The 2019 BMW S1000RR is an improvement on a lot of fronts. The power produced by the inline-4 is now 207 Bhp at 13,500 rpm and the peak torque is 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. It also gets the BMW ShiftCam technology, which brings variable valve timing and valve stroke to the intake side of the valve train. BMW also says that it has revised the geometry of the intake and exhaust ports for optimization. It hasn’t only gained power but has lost weight too. The new bike weighs 197 Kg fueled and ready to kick ‘b’ass.

What it misses out on though, is the counter-rotating crankshaft which was supposedly a part of the package according to an abundant number of rumors. This is bound to disappoint some. Anyway, the chassis sees a lot of improvement too. The engine is now more of a load-bearing member of the chassis which helped them make the chassis lighter. BMW is also showing off what it calls “Full Floater Pro kinematics” in the rear wheel suspension, which brings increased feel and traction to the rear of the motorcycle. Semi-active electronically controlled suspension (DDC) is available as an option on the 2019 BMW S1000RR.

According to BMW the electronics have also been improved. A six-axis IMU helps power the cornering ABS (ABS Pro) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) features, which will come as standard options. This includes the DTC Wheelie Control option, as well. There will be four riding modes as standard as well (“Rain”, “Road”, “Dynamic” and “Race”), with three more “Race Pro” modes available as an option, which will allow the fine-tuning of options like wheelie control and engine braking. This also brings a launch control feature, as well as a pit-lane speed limiter.

Another option is an up/down quickshifter and cruise control. Predictably so, the bike gets a 6.5″ TFT dash in order to keep up with the competition. BMW Motorrad says that it is finally bringing M Packages to its motorcycle lineup, with the S1000RR the first motorcycle to receive such a treatment.
The M Packages contain various ‘thingies’, but our favorite has to be the carbon fiber wheels and race livery. When fully kitted out with the M package, the 2019 BMW S1000RR will weigh 193 Kg.

    BMW R1250GS Adventure

Unsurprisingly, BMW has unveiled the BMW R1250GS Adventure as well. Again, the major update is the BMW ShiftCam technology. Also, the adventure focused BMW gets an upgraded 1254cc engine. It makes 134 Bhp of power and 125 Nm of torque. The ShiftCam allows for different intake valve actuation (timing and stroke) during touring and city riding, for better gas mileage and softer throttle response, but still leaves the engine the ability to wake up during spirited riding, and provide more power. Other technical changes to the engine relate to the camshaft drive, which now taken care of by a toothed chain (previously a roller chain). There is also an optimized oil supply, twin-jet injection valves and a new exhaust system.

On the electronics front, Hill Start Control (HSC) and Automatic Stability Control (ASC) comes as standard. The “Riding Modes Pro” option is really where the magic happens, as it brings two more riding modes to the mix (“Enduro” and “Enduro Pro”), as well as BMW’s Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).
BMW Motorrad also offers cornering ABS, under the name “ABS Pro”, and the R1250GS Adventure can come with what the German company calls “Dynamic Brake Control” DBC, which provides additional safety when braking by avoiding unintentional throttle activation. This is achieved by modulating the throttle so the drive torque can make full use of the braking power at the rear wheel, which increases stability.

But the standout feature has to be the around 30-litres of fuel-capacity which is bound to give you a heck of a lot of range. But life is a tradeoff so now the bike weighs 268 Kg. Ouch!

    2019 BMW R1250 R AND R1250 RS

Apart from the 2019 BMW S1000RR that is enjoying all the limelight at the moment, this one or this set of motorcycles from BMW, is something that should NOT be ignored. We welcome the 2019 BMW R1250 R and R1250 RS.

Again, changes are predictable. The engine capacity bumped up from 1170cc to 1254cc, the power is up from 125 Bhp to 136 Bhp, the torque is up from 124 Nm to 142 Nm and it gets the ShiftCam too. Other changes over the previous model includes a full LED headlight, a massive new range of optional fit items. From extra riding modes, electronic suspension systems, tyre pressure monitoring, up- and down-quickshifter, chromed bits, cruise control, luggage and so on.

The front on look reminds me of the RR310. But it may just be because I own one
