The motorcycle that was the inspiration of this concept, the original KX was an air-cooled sidevalve V-twin that displaced a tremendous 1140cc. The new bike’s engine maybe smaller though if we go by the engine badge that says 838. The Concept KX originally started life as two new machines (one classical, one futuristic) but the finished thing is a perfect combination of modern and classic styling cues.
The modern girder forks with integrated headlight is a near perfect rendition of the classic KX. The exhaust, single seat and the flat tank are also the bits that remain faithful to the original design. Even the airbox is part of the frame, with the engine being a stressed member. Royal Enfield has done a commendable job by modernizing the motorcycle while keeping those bits covert to stick to the classic design. In what is believed to be a world first, the Concept KX also has a single-sided softail rear-end.
It’s been stated Royal Enfield that the concept is not slated for production, but if that is the case, it’d be a sad, really sad state of affairs. But the motorcycle has just too much resolved detail, almost to the extent that we believe what they have stated might not be the case and if that is true, we might have a surprise coming to us in due time.
