KTM kind of left a lot of people disappointed when they unveiled the 790 Adventure and did not show the 390 Adventure at EICMA 2018. For all the people who felt disappointed, the smallest Adventure-Touring motorcycle from Austria has been spied being tested in India, heavily camouflaged of course. We expect to see the motorcycle on the roads in the second half of 2019.
Now the test mule also does reveal quite a lot of details. First one and a rather sad one is the alloy wheels. The tyres seem dedicated for some off-road fun but the wheels, not so much. But the existence of more than 1 variants (one with spoked wheels too) cannot be denied. Second thing, the exhaust. The muffler looks rather large and we are quite sure that this motorcycle will comply with the upcoming BS-VI norms. The frame is and tired, tested and much loved trellis which has long travel USD forks on the front and a monoshock on the back. The suspension is predictably WP. Disc brakes at both end will probably have ABS and that too switchable in order to help the owners alleviate ABS sabotaging the off-road fun.
On the styling front, the LED headlamps sport the same split design with the short windscreen and additional fairing with the headlamps for better aerodynamics. Quite similar to the 790 Adventure we might add. The seat is split and tail section is rather simple with a small LED taillight. The grab rails though are large and again, another variant might also have a carrier as an optional accessory.
The engine will supposedly be the same 373cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder motor that powers the 390 Duke albeit with a different state of tune to match the character of the Adventure-Tourer. The gearbox is also supposed to get a few tweaks in order to accentuate the dual character. Even though folks at KTM have been rather tight lipped about the launch and pricing details of this motorcycle, but the news of the existence of a KTM 390 Adventure and now this spyshots have made quite a splash. The competition is sweating bullets, but are they?
