  • Yamaha launches the new FZ-FI and FZS-FI with ABS

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has launched the new FZ-FI and the FZS-FI with ABS at an event in Bengaluru. The 3rd generation FZ features mild cosmetic updates with the major update being the introduction of ABS. It continues to be powered by a similar Blue Core engine from the previous generation albeit with minor changes.

Inheriting the FZ's legacy and similar styling the new FZ-FI and FZS-FI are powered by a Blue Core concept driven 149cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve single cylinder engine with fuel-injection. The settings of the engine have been revised along with compression ratio of 9.5:1 delivering 13.2 Ps of power at 8000 rpm and 12.8 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. The new FZ-FI and FZS-FI feature newly designed sub-frame, Bosch single-channel ABS (front wheel) with higher handlebar position, LCD instrument cluster, separate housings for LED headlight beams, rear disc brakes, mudguard from FZ-25, newly designed plastic resin tank cover, sliding engine kill switch, main switch in the front of the tank and two-level seat with comfortable grab bars.

The most prominent feature though is the new styling proportion that groups the front end, fuel tank and engine together to resemble a classic urban street motorcycle. Additionally, it features lower engine fairing, partly chrome finished air-intake and exclusive color schemes. The introduction of the new FZ-FI and FZS-FI followed the first launch of the ABS enabled R15 V3 from the company in 2019.

The price of the new Yamaha FZ-FI ABS is INR 95,000/- (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and it is available in 2 colors, Metric Black and Racing Blue. The new Yamaha FZS-FI ABS has been priced at INR 97,000/- (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and is available in Matt Black, Dark Matt Blue and Gray and Cyan Blue colors.

With the new FZ, Yamaha has also announced the launch of the FZ 25 with Dual-Channel ABS priced at INR 1,33,000/- (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) with 3 colors- Matt Black, Dark Matt Blue and Cyan Blue and Fazer 25 with Dual Channel ABS priced at INR 1,43,000/- (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) with 2 colors- Dark Matt Blue and Metallic Black.

Fz s looks good & comfortable but no power upgrade in any bike, that's bad!

Makes FZ25/FAZER25 one of the most VFM quarter liter bikes ever in India imo. Especially when it comes to a Jap!
The new seat in FZ is welcome but a little bump in power wouldn't have hurt Yamaha!

        FZ GSX150
LCD Meter No GPI GPI +
Rear Tyre 140/60 + Already had it
        LED headlights + -
        Fueling FI Carb
        ABS + Already had it
        Price 95k 88k
From Yamaha's website the only difference between FZ and FZ-S that I could see is that FZ-S has chrome duct plating and engine cowl and this makes it 2k INR more expensive than base FZ.

          More Power Yamaha... Please

Btw Yamaha, by making fz15 more comfortable, is eyeing the commuters and that confirms that MT15 is coming soon...[emoji7] [emoji7]

I'm more impressed by the FZ25 dual ABS launch over the FZ v3 launch, title should have read "Yamaha launches the new FZ-FI and FZS-FI with ABS and FZ25 dual channel ABS"
FZ25 now makes a perfect entry level 250cc bike with dual channel ABS, more relaxed and smooth cruiser.

This a bummer indeed, a 1ps of power increase wouldn't have hurt anyone

It has been the case from the beginning days of FZ, differences were all just with dual paint scheme, extra graphics stickers, silver vs black parts, extra small windshield, and extra wheel rim rape on the "S" models, maybe it refers to as "Style".

This is same case with Gixxer as well, they have the normal Gixxer and the Gixxer-SP, with SP having just extra and graphics differences.

Re: Yamaha launches the new FZ-FI and FZS-FI with ABS

This makes FZ one of the costliest 150cc bike in the country and offering specs that's not worth that extra bit of money. Gixxer has a better proposition albeit loses out on FI. But the sales charts for FZ wasn't fantastic to start with. Making it more costlier without changing specs is just marketing in the name of Yamaha.
Officially, Yamaha India has become the most costliest brand in the country which doesn't really offer amazing stuff at the price they ask.

Sadly yes, with ABS rule and 5 insurance rule, most 150cc bikes will breach the 1L mark, with Yamaha FZ being the least horsepower per rupee paid.

Yamaha has also announced the launch of the FZ 25 and FAZER 25 with Dual-Channel ABS
Just noticed, FZ25 and it's faired sibling FAZER25 are launched with ABS, so is the FZ/FZ-S.
But what happened to faired sibling of FZ, the 150cc FAZER? No news of it during the launch, if they had to launch it with ABS they had to do it now at this launch.

Is the FAZER 150cc now discontinued after April 1st?

The FZ-S is too close priced to FZ25/FAZER25 and there was nowhere to fit in the FAZER-S 150cc. So maybe it made sense to discontinue permanently.

Also, why the FI in the naming scheme, does that mean they also have plans to launch a "FZ-Carb/FZ-S Carb v3.0 ABS" variant at a lower price?

Fazer 150 is most probably gone brother. It never had a place and was like that sibling of the twins which is not brilliant. If FZ is priced that high, Fazer will be a humiliation where it might become costlier than 200-225cc bikes. "Quality" is not the answer for pricing a product that high.
FZ25/Fazer25 is now a complete bike(slipper clutch would have made it sweeter than honey but begger can't be chooser).
If at all it was priced 10-15K lower, it would have put sales charts on fire.

It should be because otherwise the bike would get discontinued next year and I am sure Yamaha wont let that happen after relaunching it as V3
