Massimo Tamburini will be forever referred to as the ‘Michelangelo’ of motorcycle design. This name has been associated with various brands and even resurrected some of them with his designs. One of the most iconic motorcycle designs in history and arguably one of his best… is the Ducati 916. And as Ducati is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 916, Simona Tamburini, the daughter of Massimo Tamburini, has loaned her father’s 916 to the Ducati museum.
Let’s go back in time a bit to see how Massimi Tamburini shaped the Ducati 916 in a way that is every artist’s dream.
Massimo designed the Paso 750 before the legendary 916 and spent 6 years refining the aerodynamics, handling and chassis structure. Before finalizing the production model, he himself tested the three prototypes making it a unique motorcycle altogether. That tells us how much love, energy, and pride he put in this iconic creation of his.
His own 916 is novel in that it includes various unique carbon fiber parts, an uncommon lightweight single sidearm swingarm, and various subtleties that he had put in this last model like the magnesium racing wheels. It didn’t even have indicators or an odometer! Just the speedometer and the water temperature gauge! Unadulterated, Massimo’s mark.
His 916 will stay on show at the Ducati Museum until January 15, 2020. Ducati also launched a special edition of the Panigale V4 celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 916. Here's the Panigale V4 25° Anniversario 916!
