Honda has in its arsenal one of the best adventure touring motorcycle one can get their hands on and it is... the Africa Twin. And now, the 2020 Honda Africa Twin is here and it boasts of some pretty nifty upgrades over the outgoing model. So welcome the 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin.

Probably the most important upgrade is the engine. The parallel-twin gets an 86cc displacement boost and now sits at 1084cc, growing from 998cc. The new bike now makes 101 bhp and 104 Nm of torque. Another major change is the updated frame which is optimized for handling. The rear subframe now has aluminium construction and is detachable, and the CRF450R-style aluminium swingarm is lighter and more rigid.

The 2020 Honda Africa Twin also gets an electronic overhaul and is not equipped with a 6-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) which facilitates the inclusion of wheelie control, cornering ABS, rear-lift control, DCT cornering detection and cornering lights.

The highlight this time around though is the 6.5" TFT colour touchscreen which is compatible with Apple CarPlay. A secondary display below the main screen shows the speed and the selected gear while the main one is in use for navigation or so.

Despite the increase in power and above-mentioned upgrades, the motorcycle is lighter than the outgoing model. The base model of the 2020 Honda Africa Twin weighs 226 kg and the one with DCT weighs 236 kg. The seat height is also lower from 871 mm to 848 mm. There's an optional low seat which is 825mm and a taller seat as well at 894mm.

The Adventure Sports ES Model is the more touring friendly this time around and less biased towards off-roading. It features electronic ride-height suspension- Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment suspension. It also gets tubeless wheels, heated grips, accessory socket, larger skid plate, aluminium rear rack and a larger 24.5-litre fuel tank.

The Base model is more biased to off-roading this time around and gets 19-litre fuel tank. It gets a shorter, fixed windscreen and is devoid of the touring luxuries on offer on the Adventure Sport ES Model. So based on that, the 2020 Honda Africa Twin has 4 variants; the base model, the base model with DCT, the Adventure Sport ES, and the Adventure Sport ES with DCT. Cruise Control is standard on all variants though.
