The patent application shows a Honda CRF450R which is a trail bike. This implies that the Honda AI suspension may be in development for use on a motorcycle on which the user might take up trail and adventure riding. It makes a lot of sense too since during these kinds of rides the terrain varies dramatically. Something similar is seen on BMW Motorrad motorcycles as well. They have accelerometers that scan the road surface and electronically adjustable suspension to go along with those.
Honda AI suspension also works on the same concept but the difference lies in the AI part. It anticipates what will happen. Imagine the front wheel off the ground and the AI judges that it will come down and therefore adjusts and compensates for landing. Now how the system will interpret the terrain is something out of our scope of expertise but time reference may be a factor. Considering Honda's outrageous patents, it might even care for you and soften the suspension after long hours in the saddle! Who knows...
While we wait for more updates on Honda AI Suspension, here are some patents from Honda that are way ahead of time:
-Variable riding position: One of the many that Honda has lodged recently.
-Motorcycles that respond to your emotions and adjust the throttle, brakes, and suspension accordingly: This is also one of the recent ones and it is stuff like this that makes us believe that Cybernet may be real after all.
-Active Aero: In cars, active aerodynamics have been in use for quite some time but aero-winglets that deploy at a certain speed might make motorcycles look a bit too cool and even more aircraft-like.
-A blind-spot monitor: Say no to rear-enders...
-A 'climate seat' that blows hot or cool air: The question is where...
-A leaning trike: Ah well, we are down for that one.
-Air conditioning: Oh yes! But we have been waiting for quite some time...
-A hydrogen-powered motorcycle: Polar bears might migrate from Russian towns and visit Japan for a Thank You Ride.
