  • Yamaha MT-15 BS-VI, with radial rear tyre, launched in India

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. has announced the launch of its new BS-VI engine enabled MT-15 (155 cc). MT-15 is known for its balance of torque and agility along with enhanced control postures and single-channel ABS. The launch also witnesses the special colour "ICE FLUO -VERMILLION" launched in India that has amassed rave reviews for its appearance of distinctive aggression in many countries.

The new BS-VI MT-15 now gets a rear radial tyre which is standardized in MT 15. Its advanced design expressing 'Torque and Agility' is popularized further by minimal-look, dynamic headlight, short tail and overall finish that illustrates the unpredictable MT style.

The new MT-15 comes with WA engine for agile acceleration with model-specific ECU, optimized secondary reduction gear ratio for snappy riding in town, A&S clutch for stress-free gear shifts, motard-like riding position with a great deal of freedom on a tight, concentrated silhouette, 282 mm front disc brake with single-channel ABS for excellent stopping power. The advanced design expressing 'Torque and Agility' is further accentuated by dynamic front face styling headlight, a short tail with a vertical taillight and overall 'graphics and finish' that illustrates the unpredictable MT.

During the launch, today in Chennai, Mr Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India group of companies had said, "Yamaha's 2020 strategy is clearly directed towards the cult of The Call of the Blue. In motorcycles, the MT excitement has been taken to the next level today with the "ICE FLUO - VERMILLION" launch and standardizing rear radial tyre for improved aggression on the roads. Customers can now take the experience of all such exciting Yamaha two-wheelers at the new Blue Square outlets of Yamaha which is conceptualized to garner the racing spirit along with its comfort, ambience and the beacon of the Yamaha Blue. The company also plans to expand with its brand strategy of The Call of the Blue including product strategies and network in 2020. The Blue Square which was opened recently in Chennai will expand to 100 outlets in the year 2020 and eventually would consolidate the 125-cc scooter market share and sports market share for the brand. The Call of the Blue will further scale up in 2020 in order to offer the excitement, sporty and stylish experiences to a wider audience."

Its nearly 2020 and a single channel ABS on a premium bike...
Not cool Yamaha, we understand cost cutting and keeping it affordable but RTR 200 series is more powerful, cheaper and still has dual channel ABS.

Its a premium bike for god's sake, you've already dismissed upside down forks in the name of keeping it affordable, not giving a dual channel ABS on a bike costing 1.6 lakhs is not justified.

Thats not even the worst part, the worst part is that people continue to buy these even when the disparities are crystal clear.

The price different between R15 and MT15 is roughly 4000. How do you justify only a 4000 difference when the MT15 gets single channel ABS and no fairings?

            100% agreed sir.
I am a 6 year old Yamaha owner myself (March 2014 R15 V2), Even then it felt expensive, costing 1.3 lakhs. But was the best option at that time and I have never regretted my decision.
Now the same shit costs 1.6 lakhs with just 2 more HP and without proper ABS.
If I had to buy a bike today, I would look elsewhere despite being a Yamaha fanboy.
Yes, we are fans but we are not stupid.

Didn't the previous one have radial tyres?

What a shame ! Step motherly treatment from Yamaha to one good looking machine. Single channel ABS when R15 comes with dual !/

Damn shame. This bike could've been the answer to India's power commuting needs. But the bike already feels powerless dispute having the same engine as r15 which is peppier by comparison and to add insult to injury it's offered with single channel abs despite the price tag of 1.6lakhs. I'm so glad I bought an Apache 200 4v with duel channel abs and slipper clutch. I was waiting for this bike to launch and I'm glad I decided not to keep waiting.

Maybe Yamaha India has become overconfident and indifferent to reality over a period of time! Their strategy, pricing, upgrades, after sales service - all has gone down over a period of time. When R15 and FZ were launched, those were the benchmarks for others. But, today, Indian bikers have a lot more to choose from. And they are well informed. This goes for any manufacturer. We can still recall how Inazuma failed despite having almost every aspect going for it!
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
