Default The 159 kg (dry), 230 bhp Ducati Superleggera V4 is here!

After quite a few spyshots, some tasteful teasers and a lot of anticipation, the Ducati Superleggera V4 is finally here! Is it just as outrageous as the Panigale 1299 Superleggera...? No... It is absolute madness. The Bologna boys have outdone themselves again and the Ducati Superleggera V4 is a fire-breathing testament to that. Most of you already know that Superleggera means 'Super Light'... but the limit of how far one can go is something that Ducati keeps pushing further.

Now, let's justify that rather... crazed intro. So, the Ducati Superleggera V4 is the only street-legal motorcycle which has an all carbon-fibre structure. We are talking the chassis, the subframe, the swingarm, and the wheels... all made of something derived from the element no. 6. That results in the motorcycle tipping the scales at 159 kg (dry)! And we are still talking about a motorcycle with a 998cc V4 heart!

Yes, Ducati went with the engine on the Panigale V4 R instead of the regular Panigale V4 that displaces 1,103cc. And yet, the motorcycle makes 220 bhp of power! If that was not insane enough, the Ducati Superleggera V4 comes with an optional Akrapovic exhaust which bumps up the power to 230 bhp. And do you know what else it does? With this particular exhaust, the Ducati Superleggera V4 weighs just 152 kg (dry). And there's just one more little detail that we should not leave out... With the exhaust, the Ducati Superleggera V4 boasts of the best power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle... ever!

While quite a few things from the Panigale V4 R have trickled down to the Ducati Superleggera V4, it does differ in terms of the geometry. It has a longer swingarm which makes its intent of being a focused track tool clearer. A whole lot of titanium and aluminium bits have also helped the weight reduction. An example could be... the Titanium spring on the rear shock.

Braking is also 'exclusive'. The Ducati Superleggera V4 features brakes from Brembo. An MCS master cylinder at the front is mated to Stylema R callipers, an exclusive new version made for this motorcycle. The huge wings that flank the sides of the bodywork are also hard to miss. They have been borrowed from the Desmosedici GP16 MotoGP motorcycle. Ducati has also claimed that this setup provides the Superleggera V4 with a whole lot of downforce... 50 kg of it at 270 km/h that is. This helps the motorcycle in keeping those front wheels on the ground when one accelerates out of high-speed corners. Braking stability also sees an improvement, especially after those long straights.

Now, we hate to be the ones to crash a party but Ducati Superleggera will be limited to only 500 units. It will be sold worldwide but if the price of the Panigale 1299 Superleggera is anything to go by... most of us can stop thinking about owning one someday. But... for that price, there's a lot on the plate and that is, in addition to the motorcycle.

Buyers will get a chance to take the WSBK-spec Panigale V4 R for a ride around the racetrack. Making matters even more delightful is the fact that out of the 500 owners, 30 will get a chance at a MotoGP experience. Meaning? A few laps on the Ducati Desmosedici GP20race bike. The deliveries of the Ducati Superleggera V4 will commence in June 2020 and 5 motorcycles will be made per day. Ducati states that they plan to complete all of the Superleggera V4 motorcycles within this year... and we're sure they'll be sold out even before that!

    Here are some photos...
