With the stats, BMW R18 is the largest, heaviest motorcycle in BMW Motorrad's illustrious stable. It also holds the distinction for the maximum amount of torque... 158 Nm of it! While 89 bhp of power may not seem a lot, the best part is that some 148 Nm of it is available from 2,000 rpm! That, in all sincerity, is insane. Another quirky feature is the optional reverse gear in addition to the usual 6 gears. '

The engine is housed in a steel cradle chassis and the rear end is cantilevered Softail. Despite looking suspension-less at the rear, it has 90mm of travel on the rear end. But probably the best feature of the BMW R18 is the exposed, polished steel driveshaft that disappears into the fixed bevel box. It is pure art...
The looks are classic but the Bavarians have managed to shove quite a lot of tech in the BMW R18. Riding modes, traction control, cruise control, hill-hold control, drag-torque control for downshifts, ride-by-wire, keyless ignition, cornering lights and combined ABS are to name some. Heated grips are also on offer. A lot op optional accessories from Roland Sands Design and Vance & Hines are also available at launch.
There are two models available; a standard variant and the fancy First Edition which gets a generous amount of chrome garnishings and also comes with a box of things including a trucker cap and a leather belt. But at any rate, the motorcycle weighs around 345 kg (kerb) and the price... well, £18,995 for the First Edition. A direct conversion puts in the ballpark of INR 18 Lakhs... heavy on the road and on the wallet!
The BMW R18 also comes with a smaller 16" front wheel with a fatter tyre and we know who the Bavarians have in their sights! And if you have any doubts, look at the stripped back dash and how it says Rock... and as far as we know, it's probably a mode!
