  • Looking for Beginners guide and tips for a new rider of yamaha yzf r15 v2

    Hello everyone,

This is my 2nd thread. the first being my story posted in "who r u" section. so i want a beginners guide for r15v2 as I'm going to buy one tomorrow. i also have some questions which i would like to ask separately but before i do i must tell that i don't have any idea of tech stuff, rpm, and all as i previously rode a splendor from hero honda. and a scooty hero pleasure. so please elaborate terms and tech stuff i should know for better.

    1. what is rpm and what rotations does it exactly display? and how does it help in riding this bike? what should be the ideal rpm level gear wise?
    2. at what speed and rpm should i maintain my ride in the beginning or before 1st service?
    3. i'll be buying a helmet, and gloves. please suggest me what else should i buy or is a must buy. also tell me what is this puncture kit and how does it work and if should i buy it ? if yes any particular brand or company keeping in mind its for r15 ?
    4. what necessary questions or things should i check or need to know from dealer before taking it out from showroom tomorrow? Is there any particular thing i must look for in my new bike at showroom that i should check?
    5. Any other tips as i am a totally new rider, don't know a thing about it, have driven a scooty and a hero honda splendour in my past.

    thanks n regards,

    Shivam

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Hey there, first of all, congrats on getting the new bike
I had exactly the same dilemma as you 2 months ago on how to ride a bike, or what I would need to know for it, I turned 18 recently and started riding too pretty recently, and went through the sae doubts,
      2. Regarding your run in period(the interval before first service, your bike dealer will tell you what speed/rpm you should not exceed. For e.g., on mine, For the first 1000km / 45 days, whichever comes first, you must not exceed 7500 rpm, just ask your dealer and he'll tell you exactly what you would need to follow. Don't worry too much about that, just follow it generally, it's not a problem if sometimes it does exceed the prescribed rpm, just don't stay at a higher rpm for too long; it's not touching that higher rpm initially that can lead to engine problems, it's staying at that higher rpm that can lead to it. Try riding it in city as much as possible, as it leads to varying speeds at varying gears, which helps engine set in(as far as I'm aware).
      3. Regarding safety gear, go to the riding gear thread, you'll get a lot more detail and help there. To briefly cover it, do not skip the helmet at any cost. Depending upon your budget, you can decide upon a helmet. Gloves help you in case of a fall, because you usually tend to put your hands out, so gloves help in preventing broken fingers, scrapes etc. Another piece of gear you should consider is a riding jacket, which comes with shoulder, elbow and back armour generally. These 3 pieces of gear are easy to carry around, and are not too inconvenient, as compared to riding pants, knees guards, boots etc. Your choice of riding gear is completely dependent on your riding conditions and your budget, whether your main usage is highway use, or rainy conditions, too hot/cold and so on. Keep in mind too that riding gear is expensive, I purchased TGB street models(gloves and jacket) for 9k, and thats lower model, because most of my usage is city commute for which level 1 armour suffices.
      4. Regarding what you need to check, just google how to do a PDI(pre delivery inspection). Usually there should be no problems, go over the bike and see if there's and scratches/ wear and tear, or any anomalies of such kind. Take a ride around, see if braking, lights, throttle, etc are working fine. When you take delivery, fill up fuel first thing before taking it anywhere else. This is just a basic list, google it up and you'll find what exactly you'd need to do.
      5. Regarding other tips, all I can say is don't overthink it. I was nervous too, had all sorts of small questions and doubts, read up a lot and so on. The fact is, once you get on a bike and start riding, you instinctively know what to do, it just needs a week, and you'll be a lot more comfortable on the bike, and you'll understand how it works. Just go easy on the throttle, it's easy to get carried away initially when you feel you know how to ride properly. In case of any particular issues while riding, after that you can check up on it Just read up on rev matching if you'd like, thats what i found useful.
      1. Regarding the RPM, its something I found confusing too, just remember one basic point, that a higher RPM does NOT necessarily mean a higher speed. I figured it out from my riding too, it needs a little practical experience, you'll figure it out. I really have no idea how to explain how RPM works, so you'll have to as another member
