It's heartening to see, more and more manufacturers in India are getting up their sleeves and providing the products the consumers warrant. This might have been a know or a not yet published thereof, but for our members here it is...

Masseter by MRF - Rule Every Curve

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

While the Zapper C1 110/70x17 and 150/60x17 remain (apparently) the most grippy tyres from MRF in the market presently, and their dry grip is being acclaimed well, their specifically noticeable weak point against the Metzelers was the lack of wet grip.

Let's hope this new tyre proves to be the import substitute, giving high performance at a price we all crave for.

However, they must come out with 150/60 as an alternative for KTM Duke & RC. In fact, KTM isn't even listed on their site.
    Even R3 gets recommended a 140/70.

      #TrackAttack with #MasseterByMRF

As a biker, it's a dream to pose like #VR46 or #MM93 does on the race tracks
Finally, the day has come, where I could really get my hands dirty on the track

It's not just a normal track day where few biker friends team up, in fact, it was a special occasion where a new curve specialist tire a.k.a #Masseter was revealed by the MRF.

I felt really lucky and honor to witness such a gala event with many known moto Journalists and V-Blogger participated. Everyone was so excited to check the performance of the new tires on the #KariMotorSpeedTrack.

It was a bit cloudy day, in fact, it was raining till the early morning.
Maybe God didn't want to disappoint all the biking enthusiast as the rain stopped and we could burn the rubber on the track

It started with a track walk which was led by the MRF professional racer. He explained all the corners in detailed.

We were given Yamaha R15 with speed controlled limits. To avoid overcrowding on the track, we were divided into 4 groups with 4-5 people in each. For the first two laps, it was guided by the professional racer to show us the lean positions and then the green flag was given to us.

I was riding on the track for the first time so I was bit cautious for the first two laps, but after initial laps, i was getting more confident lap by lap. I could go on more speeds on the corner as a well lean angle. The tires really hold good and I didn't feel any moment that I could crash out.

Our group was lucky as we went in the last and did almost 10 laps as compared to others who hardly got 6-8 laps.

It was a thrilling experience for sure and I can't wait to go on the track again with the bigger horsepower under the hood

Stock R3 rear is 140/70 , while they don't have stock front size.

Thanks for sharing this experience Kapil.

Its good that MRF is offering such controlled track rides to media to show its performance prowess early on. We often forget that MRF were the ones who gave us the YZF R15 version 1's incredibly small yet grippy tyres, way back in 2008... Even today, many bikers ask for those tyres, for their League I performance bikes, those around 150-200cc or so...

And its good to see MRF expanding its range to match the imports. Clearly, MRF can provide a better price to performance ratio than the imported tyres...

MRF has indeed come a long way to giving a tough fight to other international brands
As i heard its gonna be prize very aggressively too , so its win-win

Cant make out if these are soft, medium or dual compound tyres. Wish they had a 150/60-17 Rear tyre and also cant seem to see 110/70-17 Front?

Soft compounds and their wet grip is not great as well.

MRF aiready had great tyres for R15 with the original v1 tyres but seems to have lost the way with the R3 tyres which are not so confidence inspiring specially wet grip, they should have had the track day with atleast 200 -300 cc bikes for comparisons but better than not having a track day i suppose.Anyway out of the Indian brands i think they have the best 2 wheeler tyres .

Unfortunately, the size they are selling for the 220 front 80/90-17 is not the right profile. It fits alright, folks have used the same size tyre from R15 V1 in the past.

However, the lowered sidewall height might be great for cornering but not so good for our pothole ridden roads.

Considering that the same size tyre is used across P220, P180, Apache160 & Apache180, I think there was more than enough justification for MRF to launch this in 90/90-17.

In fact apart from the R15 V1 I don't even recollect which bike uses a 80/90-17 tyre, even the CBR150 uses a 80/100-17 tyre!!

Although I'm no rubber expert, yet i am still tempted to question the abilities of this tyre in the wet.

One of the primary criticizms leaped against the Euroslips is their absolutely diabolical wet weather grip. Which is often attributed to not having a central groove which would effectively expel water. Thereby making it immensely succeptible to aquaplaning.

Doesnt this also suffer from the same handicap?

The euroslips have the same pattern of the TVsS srichakra tyres. I guess it's the same tyre compound with just a rebranding and nothing more.
Looking at these new MRFs they look decent and can have decent wet grip as the testing batch had a wet/damp track and they seemed impressed. However I did not see any cornering there.. few bent a bit and that's about it.

Second your opinion. Perhaps they intently wanted to bring this profile. Are you saying the profile is lowered? I feel the profile is heightened, it's 80/90 right, so it's not 90/80 something amiss here? I guess, only the width of the tire is reduced by 10 mm but the sidewall profile is is the same, no?

                              90/90 sidewall = 90% of 90mm = 81mm
                              80/90 sidewall = 90% of 80mm = 72mm

Moreover 80mm front isn't ideal too, can't confidently use the edges for during cornering as there is too much taper towards the end of the profile. Unless the tyre forms a 'V' profile as opposed to a 'U' profile.
