Chasing the Chinkaras!
The 'Chinkara' is what we Indians call the Indian Gazelle. The Mayureshwar ('God / Lord / Protector of Peacocks') Wildlife Sanctuary in the Baramati district of Maharashtra, nearly 80 Kms from my home, is home primarily to the Chinkaras. Though few in number and extremely shy of humans, I managed to shoot (photos) some of them in their natural habitat, which meant being the sole human treading unguided and uncharted into the heart of a large forest surrounded by wild beasts (thankfully vegetarians), and surviving to tell the tale! Besides, seeing them moving, jumping, living free right in front of me with my own eyes is an exhilarating experience that cannot be explained with words. The journey also allowed me to bike at top speed and do some extreme off-roading on rocky dirt tracks inside the sanctuary in a hot and humid weather, followed by cooling showers during the return journey, leading to an 8 hour solo 200+ Kms motorbike round trip, my first ever! Tiring, eh? Nah! Fully charged and pumped up for more!
