I was down with illness from August to October which included an extended stay at the hospital. This stint had left me too weak to even take the bike out of the main stand, let alone ride it. Nowadays, through some effort i can drive the bike for about 30 mins without exhaustion. But, the tourer in me was desperate for a change, for a ride to the hills. So, i did the unthinkable, i decided to become a "tourist".
Took the overnight volvo to nainital. The next two days were spent just roaming around the mall road and thandi sadak, a horse back trek to some "view points" and a packaged tour of the lakes

Here is a pictorial trip log of the time spent there.

Some close ups

The horse back ride

Tibetan Market when bustling with activity

...and early morning when the shops are closed.

Nights in Nainital
The only bike in this trip log, a rusty Yezdi on the mall road.

The brassware shop owner

The NainaDevi temple and bells. Its an uplifting feeling listening to the bells toll across the lake in the evening when aarti is performed. Worth all the mindless package tours i subjected myself to.

Being without a bike in the hills was frustrating, specially when one is getting ripped off by travel agents. But, this was also the first time i actually explored the place, otherwise Nainital had always been a stopover, a postcard pic town.
Next time... on my bike.. sooner than later
