                Trip details

                Part 1.

As planned... 13 bikes, 1 Bolero and 26 members of Meghalaya xBhp and Freakybykerz had gathered at Dhankhetti Parking lot at 5:30am. AS USUAL AGAIN the weather was disappointing for the clouds darkened the sky and the rain further chilled our departure. Without a second thought off we left at 6:30am on wet road condition. We knew the wet road was against us but we never expected the worse journey so far. Reached Jowai, Lad Rymbai, Sonapur and still raining non-stop till our inner wears were dripping with water and our little brothers chilled behind our bushes .

We had covered only about 200kms in 6hours navigating through the potholes. Taking pictures on the way was next to impossible for the rain kept showering and we were far behind schedule. As we crossed Sonapur tunnel we were then caught in the traffic stretching for about 30 kms till the Meghalaya-Assam border. Navigating through the traffic full of trucks and busses was fun but the horrible road condition messed up our bikes and energy. We could see the trucks sway left and right while our bike's floor kept kissing the road and our nuts must have definitely complained. For about 30kms were were only shifting between 1st and 2nd gear untill Conrad's Ninga was overheated and Dragon's Pulsar broke down. Thanks to Dilip the mechanic for getting our monster fixed.

As we crossed the Meghalaya border, we were relaxed and said to ourselves "At last! Better road condition! Cheers Assam Govt. for having better road than Meghalaya!" But who the hell knew it would be worse than Meghalaya. Curses began as we were about to reach Kalain. The road was so pathetic that our shoes disappeared and half our tyres hidden under the mud. Our tail lamps were swinging left and right and few of the fellow riders fell down. Navigating through one pothole led us to another one: no chance of escaping the bumps! This went on for many kilometers until we reached Silchar at about 9 or 10pm. We took about 20mins break for tea encountering curious pedestrians who kept on throwing questions after questions on seeing our muddy bikes, at times, stupid questions.

20 minutes after leaving Silchar Naylin's bike broke down and the Ninja got overheated again. 1 hour after that there was a police checking, fortunately we had the invitation letter from Mizoram Motorsports Association (MiMSA) and without any objection they let us free after few questions. As we were about to enter Mizoram it was drizilling accompanied by foggy weather and bad road condition.

It was 2 O'clock in the morning when we were finally received by Joseph and Benjamin from the MiMSA at the Mizoram Check gate. Joseph and Ben had travelled about 170kms from Aizawl (capital of Mizoram) to escort us to the capital. We grabbed our Mizo dinner cum breakfast at Wrangte proceeded again for the next destination. From there onwards, the road was much narrower and most of the riders were too exhausted. Three times I fell asleep while riding and finally give up and handed over the control to Vicky. The same happened to most of us and we were seeing illusions as we rode the bike. Even as I sat behind thinking that the chilled weather would freshened my mind I kept on falling asleep. We could neither sleep in the jungle nor there was any lodging available nearby and still had to cover more than a hundred killometers of hill riding. We reached to an extend that we had to ask Justin (the youngest rider, 17 yrs of age) who was fresh enough to take over one bike for the rest of the journey. Many of us had to take turn riding every 20-30 kms while few of us took short nap inside Teidor's packed Bolero and Joseph's Baleno. We were too stressed and exhausted but our spirit kept pushing us to our final destination. However, Nandu was the only rider who never let go of the bike's control all the way from Shillong, but others including me had to take a 1 or two hours nap between riding.

As we reached Aizawl, the traffic was already busy and people were gazing at the brown people with their brown machines. It was only at about 11am that we could finally unpack our luggages and grab 3 hours of sleep before the next plan of the day. However, the stunters and few others never slept because the bikes needed servicing before our final performance on the 11th December.

                end of part 1...

                  Part 2

At about 3:30pm I woke up from the 3 hours nap. Few of us were unwilling to leave the bed, however the thought that our buddies never slept kicked us out of our bed. So, Conrad, Teidor, Shanky, Nandu, Ben and myself took off on two bikes and headed for the bus which was supposed to head towards the Airfield to pick all of us. As we decended towards the abandoned Airfield located at about 25kms, Conrad, Teidor and Ben boarded the bus while the remaining 3 proceeded on the bike. The road was no less compared to the Assam road. So bad that for about 17 kms Nandu, Shanky and myself had to ride bare footed because our slippers kept getting stuck in the mud every time we landed our feet down. It was risky yet no other option available even though it was a different experience of fun.

Three of us were looking like farmers who just returned after plowing the paddy field. Our pants folded till knee length, slippers weight about 3-5kgs of mud, our faces no less than drunkards and our feet covered with mud. Even then on the return journey from the Airfield, we were honoured to meet Karthik, the national Champian racer from Chennai in the TVS workshop. For sure, Karthik and his fellow race partner must have wondered who these farmers were .

Finally, we reached back the hostel, filled our stomach and doze off to deep sleep for the final day in Mizoram...

                  end of part 2.
