and @all: thanks guys.... sure looking for a nice camping trip.... this is gonna be an acid test before the major camping events coming up in the future.

Though had few camping trips during my childhood days with Dad but this time gonna be a different experience. Hoping for the best.

@Dragon: thanks for taking up the matter with the resourse person from Shella. I guess if we need not seek permission from the local dorbar, then Shella location should be finalised.

                Few questions:
                1. So what time should we be leaving Shillong considering the distance of the camping spot?
                2. Will the 4wheels reach the camping spot or will they have to park it somwhere away from the camping spot?
The reason is that, we will probably be reaching after sunset and will require to camp wherever safe.

                  Answers to the above queries:
                  1. If possible, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM will be the ideal time to start the trip, as it will give us enough time to put up the tents and settle down.
                  2. 4-Wheels will be able to reach right upto the camping site, but if required, safe parking area is available at Shella.

Hope this information will be helpful.

Sorry Mate. I just cannot find any picture of Shella village, though i had taken a couple of them a couple of years back.

Anyway, here are 2(Two) Google earth images related to the above trip.

Well Papaji, thanks a ton. I didn't expect to be camping by the river beach... it looks like an awesome spot for the camping and fishing. Much better than what I did expect.
We better camp a little outskirt from the main settlement for privacy sake .
Just hope also there will not be any sudden rise in the river water level otherwise we will find each other in Bangladesh then.

                            Trip Details + Pics

3 O'clock ticked and the first group comprising of Conrad, Nandu, Shanky, Joseph, Ayush, Neha, Phoebe and Julia pushed ahead for Shella while the 2nd group comprising of Dhan, Benny, Hanif, Donald, Kim, myself, Ru and Yannie left at 5O'clock. We were about 2-3 hours behind scheduled due to packaging, heavy downpour and the usual IST (Indian Stretchable Time) . However, there were no more rains after we crossed the city but reached the camping spot quite late at night. Few of the riders had to carry the logs of wood on the pillion seat - thats an extra adventure riding off-road for about 30kms!

Anyway, once we reached the spot, the tents were set, lit the fire, opened the drinks but realised we had forgotten some of the fishing kits. Well, we can't expect perfection right? Afterall there is always a first time! However, we did managed to catch about 2 fishes, about 10 crabs, few prawns and even river snails with the few fishing accessories we had. I know it might sound like a disaster trip with regard to fishing, but the rest of the happenning was the best part for those who know how to have fun with only the basic necessities amidst nature.

Breakfast, lunch, noon-tea, dinner was all prepared by a nearby food stall and henced more time for the rest of the fun. During the day, we would be caught up with either swimming, fishing, hunting with bow and arrow, bike riding, short walks, marketting (since we camped nearby to a small bazar), archery, taking a nap and later chilling with beers while our bodies dipped in the river.

River fishing is no piece of joke when we are still novice in this art. We could see schools of silver fishes approaching our baits yet none would fall prey to our hooks. Nevertheless few of us would stand in the waist-deep water for hours getting sunburns on our cheeks and body but only to see the float tickled by the small fishes who would rob our baits. But thats the fun part of learning.

By sunset, we would be busy roasting the chicken (not the turkey!), frying dried meat, playing cards, sitting by the camp fire with drinks in one hand and cigarettes in the other with the stars twinkle up above the sky so high! Sleeping under the dome-type tents with temperature around 35degrees was a hell though. We would also wake up every now and then flashing our torch to check the water level and signs of dark cloud; we feared that next day we might find ourselves floating in Bangladesh dead without passports, since we camped on the river bed instead of the river bank!

Oh yeah! I forgot to mention the funniest or say the weirdiest part of the trip: taking a turkey all the way from Shillong riding for 98kms, leaving it by the side of the camp, feeding it and then carrying it back home in "one piece" for another 98kms - The turkey must have had a vacation instead of being roasted!

What else would one expect in a camping trip: ready food, running crystal clear river water, born-fire, drinks, a living turkey and a place to rest for the night!

Got some pics here with me but mostly of the last day of the trip.
Waiting for Conrad for most of the pics
