  • Riding on German Roads

It all started when my organisation decided to transfer me to Germany. when i was told about this opportunity, the very first thing which came into my mind was Black Forest or schwarzwald as the Germans calls it and Nurburgring. Off Course there are many famous Alps arpund like in Swiss, Austria, Italian, French, etc. All these places are a dream for every biker and if i'm getting an opportunity to be in one of these place, I definity don't want to waste it.
The first thing I want to make sure is that i should know all the rule of driving\riding in Germany. Here I contacted a friend of mine Adarsh for xBHP who lives in Belgium for quit a while now, he has made a video on basics of riding in Europe which covers all the basic role which are common in all the Europian countries
Next up was to find the a dealer where i can rent a motorcycle. Here i contacted some Kawasaki Dealers and the one in Ludwigsburg was kind enough to provide me test ride of ER-6n. So went there on Friday afternoon, but then i had to wait for at least half-n-hour as someone had taken that bike for a test ride and was about to return it. So we decided to spend some time inside the dealership and check out some exotic Kawasaki.

Finally, after a wait of more the 1.5 hrs the guy had arrived with the bike. My intial plan was to ride for around 150 km but as we got bike a little more late than excepted and shop closes by 1800, we have to cut the distance short, and we ended up riding around 70 km only. Below are some photos take form my action camera. we tried to cover all type of roads which i might encounter in future rides, from city roads where the speed limit is 30 kmph till the famous Autobahn with no speed limit, but it is always recommended to ride/drive at 120 kmph

Watch out this place, as log of my first ride and ride to Black forest is in Progress.

          Re: Riding on German Roads

As i told earlier this trip is all about Black Forest and Nurburgring, but before jumping on to big things i had to get used to all the traffic rules and right side riding. It felt easy when i took the test ride bcause that time i was just following a friend blindly. Some photos of the test ride are share below.

This photos are taken from my action camera when i test rode the ER-6n. The Bike is basically a naked verion of Ninja 650 and it was fun to ride it on German roads. But as it's a nake bike there was too much of wind blast, well was expected. I found the engine little rought around 6-8k rpm, might that was problem only with that particular bike and gear box was notchy, many times i face problem shifting up from 1s to 2nd gear. I rode it for a good 70 km, we tried to cover all the types of road which i would encounter while riding solo to Black Forest. Traffice rules here in Germany are strict, which you all might be knowing. In city there are many zone with speed limit of 30km, once inside a town the speed limit is 50kmph and upon exiting the town it goes bck to 70 or 80. Many Country side roads are having speed limit 100 kmph. Autobahn also has the speed limit in some sections that varies from 80-120 kmph. And when there is mentioned speed limit on Autobahn, you are recommended to do at least 80kmph and stick right most lane.

Autobahn with speed limit 120kmph andd other sign says that overtaking is prohibited

I'm not sure whether i'll get chance to ride in the ring or no. was weather is getting cold here, cold means serious cold. Black forest ride i did last week, but still have to process the photo before publishing them. I'm not getting time because i'm also compiling the video of Black Forest ride so there is always a confusion should work on video or photos.
Wether forcast for upcoming weekend is not good so i'll spend that time in working on video and photos, So you guys havd to wait for few days for more photo.

              Re: Riding on German Roads

Sorry folks as i'm not getting much time to write, i'll directly cut to the chees and share the photos.

This place has got it's name by the view which you get from there. Panorama means Wide-angle view and Strasse in German means street.

I had to park my Motorrad here at parking which belong to some Hospital which on left top corner in the picture above

As a bike lover i can't resist myself from taking pictures of my bike, so what it is rented.

That sign means no entry to any kind of vehicles, bicycle can be an exceptions. This is the reason why i had to park my Motorrad there.

This place is basically a wine farm and it's a private property.

A small walk of around 5 mins thought this small road and it will take you to

              Panoramastrasse

That's the Neckar river in the background and my Helmet in the forground which I carried all the way from India, even though it occupied half the space in the bag.

After spending some time at this place, i decided to head back to my hotel but it was just 1700hrs. and sunset is after 2030hrs as it is summer here, so i decided to head towards another place which was just 30 mins ride from this place.

              That's the Stuttgart city

This place is such an old monument, but still it's well preserved or it maybe restored, i have no idea.

Riding on German Roads: Die Schwarzwaldfahrt (The Black Forest Ride)

Die Schwarzwaldfahrt (The Black Forest Ride)

All set and ready to roll

So, finally everything was ready and the big day started. Riding on A81 Autobahn was a blist, in the section where was no limits I was doing 165kmph. It was this time that i realised how difficult it is to mentain this speed coz of the wind blast, even though i was fully crouched. Still i managed to did 130+ thoughtout the Autobahn and bike was really smooth and stable. There was a point when I was doing something around 150+ and Nissan GTR passed my and vanished. That sound of the GTR gave me goosebumps for a while, i'm sure he was doing more then 200+. Well it's German Autobahn, when there is no limit you can do whatever speed you want to do, but always know you limit and ride in you comfort zone.

Autobahn, i was doing 160+ on this road, it was for the first time that i crossed 140kmph mark on the speedo

Exit for Horb am Necker. Ausfahrt means exit in German Language

Right will take back to Autobahn and left is where i'm going towards Freudenstadt via Horb am Necker

Once i took the exit for Horb am Necker, the no speed limit zone was over but the best part of ride has justed started. The speed limit on these roads was max. 100kmph but i think it is too much if you want to see the beautful landscapes and it's very less if you enjoy the roads. Some times the roads that such a long corner that even at 100 you don't need to lean your bike.

Speed limit on this road was 100kmph

And we just entered the 50kmph zone at Horb am Necker

The first stop I took was just after crossing Horb am Necker just to breath some fresh mountain air, although I was breathing the same fresh since the morning, but this was a different experience. And i also had to take pictures of the Z300.

That sign on the left says, you are now out of the town and speed limit again goes to 70kmph unless until specified

Just after crossing Horb am Necker

That was a private road leading to someone's house, so didn't dared to go ahead.

Ahhh... That hairpin bend, acually i passed this places twice. first time i stopped to take photos and second time just wanted to hit the apex and lean the motorcycle, I biker can't resist such corners

The Ride from Horb am Necker to Freudenstadt was good and adventurous as Sat Nav took me thought some very rural places and that road reminded of ur Indian roads and i was surprised to a sign board saying speed limit 70. But the road was not that bad, I was doing 60 with ease. That rural road didn't last long and once that road connected to a proper road it was time to hit the gas the speed was again up to 80. Why 80? because it was the speed limit, and this time it was again hard to maintain this speed as the road was empty. At the junction the speed limit dropped to 70 and after that there was a sign which was confusing as at first it say limit of 70 is discarded from here and another sign board said speed limit 70 again, i didn't get what does that meant so kept doing 70 until I saw any other sign. Some place on this route had such a great chicane but the speed limit was just 50, i mean how could they do this, some should take some action and make it at least 80.

Speed limit 70, and not sure that does that other sign means

The rural road in the above picture connected to this road, and the Stop sign means you have to stop look for other vehicles and if it is clear you are good to go.

Now that's a confusing sign, First it says speed limit 70 is over and just after it another sign says speed limit 70.

You have this infront of you and you can't do more than 70

50 on this corner, are they serious about this

In order to get some good photos i took a detour and ended up in restricted zone

A Biker saying Hi to another biker, this is common in Germany and guess in all over Europe. If you don't respond then you are being rude

Upon passing Freundnstadt the Black Forest started, and it is exactly the same how i had imagined it. It was dense forest with tall trees and due the Shadow it cold also. The weather is Germany is like this only, when is shade you'll cold even in afternoon, but once you are in direct sunlight it feels warm.. I stopped a parking on the route B500. It wasn't any shop or nor any fuel station, on such route parking are provided so that the driver or riders can take small break in case they are feeling fatigue. But i was not tired, i just wanted touch the B500 road with my bare hands, I know it sounds crazy but we biker are a little crazy.

                      The Famous B500 route

                      Some more bikers

                      And more

                      And more

                      Time to take pictures

Attacking one corner after another i reached to Schwarzenbachtalsperre it is a gravity dam near Forbach. After leaving Freudenstradt, this was first place where I saw some restaurants and they where all filled with bikers. The roads are so amazing and the landscape so beautiful that many times I was confused whether to stop for photo or keep on riding. But as I had my action camera recording everything i decided to keep going, until i realised that my phone was running out of battery. That was moment of tension for me as without Navigation i was like blind. I immediately stopped at the next parking and pluged my phone to power bank. While the phone was charging i did a small photo shoot.

Schwarzenbachtalsperre, that's a very diffcult name to pronounce

As i have also lived in England some years back, I can say that Germnay has too many bikers as compared to England

My ride and my ride companion

Once the phone was charged enough, I started started again, then i realised my action camera was out of battery. So I put is on charging and kept it in my bag and and didn't stopped anywhere till I reached nagoldtalsperre. It was almost 1400hrs when i reached that lake, i was little tired my now so i sleep there for some time.

Finding a parking place at nagoldtalsperre is difficult even for a motorcycle on weekends

Finally found a spot next to that BMW

                      Nagold lake

Ready to roll after taking rest at the lake

After waking up I took a photo of the lake and by that time my action camera was also charged, I mounted it on helmet, packed up my stuff and started heading towords my bike. There where few biker talking amoung themself, then one of them saw me and said something and all of a sudden everyone was looking at me. I went towards them said Hi, Hello to them, and they asked me where i'm from and what am i doing in Germany. When I told them i'm from India, about my passion for motorcycles and that it was always my dream to ride in Black Forest they where amazed, they said they have saw very few Indian guys riding a motorcycle in Germany. I showed them photos of my rides which I have done in India and we discussed for around 30 mins about bikes, roads, landscapes, etc. When people with common interest come together they have a lot to talk. They also told me about some beautiful road in black forest.

After Nagold it was just 1 hr ride back to hotel thought Wildberg, I could have taken the Herrenberg route which was shortest with just 30 km but it was straight forward and was not fun to ride.
