Default First Ever Independence Day Ride by the Shillong xBhpians!

For those who are not associated with Shillong or Meghalaya, I would like to mention here that Independence Day & Republic days are always marked by Bandhs (Road Blockades & shutting down of all establishments). These Bandhs are called for by Armed Militant groups with anti-national feelings. Therefore, the above days in Meghalaya are mostly not celebrated by the public, except for the official functions at State, District and C.D. Block levels with very high security.

This year, for a change, at the spur of the moment, we had a get-together at Golf Links, Shillong and invited as many members as we can and tried to make things different. We planned and although many guys could not make it due to the danger and permission from the parent factor, others were ready for it. So, here are the events of 15th August, 2009.

At about 9:00 AM, 11 guys on 7 bikes assembled at Laitumkhrah Police Point, placed the Indian Flags on our bike headlights and headed for Polo Ground for the Independence Day Function. But to disappointingly landed at the right time - the closing ceremony.....lol....

Anyways, the group had tea, rice and chicken at Polo Ground, had fun robbing some petrol from Pinku, the warm, humble and generous friend.

Seeing that the bandh was of no danger, the group decided to ride around the Shillong City. So, it headed for St. Peter's College at Dhankheti to meet Conrad, Abhijeet and Ray. Seeing the fun and excitement, Conrad sneaked his scooty out of the residence and joined along with Ray. Then out of the blue everyone decided to hit the road towards Kyrdemkhla, located near Laitlyngkot.

All along the way, there was calmness all around with traffic-free road but the ride was hindered halfway as DarkAngel's pulsar got punctured. Somehow the bike was taken at Dragon's place in Baiun, all with the help of "feviquick" and "Gulf Inflate and Repair" kit.

When the group reached the destination, it was raining every now and then. I (Dragon) then joined the celebration as I could not do so earlier as a relative and neighbour had expired the previous day. Then everyone gulped down some warm drinks and smoked beef, joked around and clicked some pics. Well we had a lot of pullings (pulling each others legs)..... The main Character in our celebration was "Russel Peter", the famous Indian-Canadian Comedian. The whole place was at ease, calm and while most people were in their warm, cozy comfort of their home and bed, we were having our own way of celebration ignoring the fog, rain and chilly weather.

Later, at about 5:00 PM we headed for the Concert at Police Bazar after collecting Brandon's bike and repairing it. Again, we reached only to see "packers and movers" winding up the stage.

So all of us dispersed back to our own destinations, after all the fun on the 63rd India’s Independence Day Celebration.

That was our Best Independence Day so far & we are planning to make things better next year. Looking forward to it. ;-) Enjoy the Pics…

    Jai Hind!

Thanks for the speedy Approval Ken and Thanks to Dragon for putting up the thread.

Well this idea poped up last year during the 62nd Independence Day. I had fun on that particular Independence Day inspite of the "Bandh" called by some Millitant groups. I hope next year they won't plant some c4 bombs or mines in our path next year..... . Though most of the things were unplaned as Dragon had spoken, everything went peacefully. And I hope next Republic Day will be organised with more bikers and friends participation. And Ah! sure there is going to be a bandh, but lets see, its gonna be much more fun, raising the spirit of nationalism and spreading it amongst the people.

Well, I don't thing any of the biking group has ever rode during a bandh earlier in Shillong.
We are the future, our thoughts, deeds and action will change the way the Shillongites react towards these habitual bandhs which bars us from celebrating the spirit of freedom, the spirit of oneness and togetherness.

I would personally like to thank the following bikers and friends for making the day a fun filled and peaceful GTG:

    Conrad (lilmc)
    Dragon
    Brandon (DarkAngel)
    Pinku
    Shai
    Sam
    Kyle(DarrenPhoenix)
    Benny
    Hanif
    Steve (SteveK9)
    Jied
    Ramesh(Ray)
    &
    Jonathan

Cheers guys for spreading the spirit of Nationalism!

    Jai Hind!
