If you want the cast iron thump with a positive shifting 5 speed shifter on the left side, go for the Electra 5s of yore.
If you want amazing torque with decent fuel efficiency and massive street presence, go for machismo 500 of yore.
If you believe your fortunes are bloody good, go for nothing but a 500CI, it is the best bullet imho.
If you want the quintessential bullet, get a used 350STD CI.

But if you wanna buy one brand new,
The engines are all the same except the classic 500. Its just a matter of looks and comfort.
Classic series has better headlight iirc 60/55w, 18inch tyres while the Electra 350 UCE comes with the old gen 19 inch tyres and afaik 35/35w illumination.
Why do your Bullet buddies not like the new bullets...? Diff question to answer. Maybe its just that with the change of heart i.e engine, its just another bigger displacement bike in retro clothes.

Thanks for the answers. The reason my friends do not like the current gen Bullets are because according to them, they (the new gen Bullets) lack the features you mentioned that the old ones had.

What about the TBTS?

hey feinicks
if you really like the thunderbird then go for it. Its a great looker and offers decent mileage. I have a IInd generation thunderbird and get a mileage of 38+kmpl in delhi city traffic. The TBTS is a bit advanced as compared to the IInd gen thunderbird because of its twin spark ignition technology, but i personally feel my machine looks better than the twin spark models because of its double tone colour.

i would suggest-
*Either get a new Thunderird Twinspark
*Or get a used IInd gen Thunderbird (don't get a used Ist gen TB)

lol man,even am damn damn confused with r15 or TBTS...same situation as yours.......

but since u have trips alredy planned,dude go for TBTS...same engine...awesome looks.....chopper kinda looks......laid back riding.....its soo comfy,man,u might fall asleep(lol jus kiddin)......

seriously go for TBTS if u plan to tour,cruise around outside the city.....

if you are gonna go for in city rides,the classic may be an eye catcher!

in my travel team, i have many Bike riders and we all have Bullets... in my group all models of Bullets are there. i myself have 350 std and Machismo 350 AVL.. need4torque have given some good pointers... second them.
if you want Bike for traveling purpose then go for TBTS as i have seen its performance across all terrains... excellent pickup, good balance & very decent mileage... if you want more power/torque then machismo 500 can be considered... my 2 friends have Classic500 and 2 have C-350, initial performance is awesome... if you need good thump aswell then Electra 5s have to be given thought...

But what I want to know is why do people recommend against it?

No da... The Ninja is just too expensive. I don't earn much as of now to fund it. Maybe in a few year, once my financial state goes up, I'll get a super sports. Who knows, in that time, we might have more options. There are no alternatives to the Ninja other than the Bullets.

Anyways...

I do not think the Classics are a good option due to closed bookings.

Simply because bullet purists me including think the Thunderbird is not in the classic bullet mould, otherwise it's a great bike.

If you are nt like one of the bulleteer purists and is not particular about the "Bullet" look go for the TBTS if you really like it. And an Electra if you re obssesed about having the true blue Royal Enfiled look n DNA.

Rather buy a brand new bull either STD, Electra or the TBTS whichever pleases you run in the bike properlly that way you know every mile that bike has doen and maintain a strict service regime since day one. With a second hand you never know!

yamahatrooper, Just saw your wishlist in your signature. Personally, the ci500 is a dream bike for me too. Its the best torque I ve ever felt on a bike. Though I d go ahead and commit sacrilege by putting a disc up front!

A bit OT but we re talkin bullets so.. Well my friend safety is paramount so even I would mount a disk up front if i get me hands on a CI STD 500.
