  • Choosing a second hand bike

I am looking for a second hand bike under 50,000,i need a sporty daily commuter bike as i have to travel 45km daily to my college. So suggest me bike with superior built quality, low maintainance, cheap parts, power and pickup being not a big concern,,but should give mileage of approx 40-45 on highways. Some of available options are:-
    1. Yamaha fz
    2.Pulsar 220
    3.Pulsar 180
    4.Karizma R (2013)
    5.Apache rtr 180/160
    6.Hero cbz extreme (2013)
    7.Yamaha Fazer.

So please suggest which one is best. Thanks!

Karizma R in my opinion would be the best best among the choices. Mileage might not be close to what you expect but you won't be disappointed with the bike.

Re: Choosing a second hand bike

I get about 31-35 kmpl in stop and go traffic. In highways I get about 38 kmpl. I can attribute that to the speeds also. It is always at about 90 kph on the highways. I am happy with it currently. Anything close to 35 is acceptable for me. So mileage actually doesn't matter. My decision to go with a Karizma was more due to my riding style. I felt it was the right bike for me in terms of my height (Rtr felt too small for my body structure), longer wheelbase, smoother handling, comfort and higher gearing. Though I wished I had the Zmr, but I am happy with this hassle free bike. So far no major issues except for one small item the front tire. I so badly wish we had better options for the front tires.

Anything from the Hero stable is good, go for Karizma if you find a bike in good condition bike.
Next choice should be the Fz and then Fazer, if you find one well maintained.
Stay away from Bajaj, if you are going for second hand bike. Bajaj engines are as good as dead after about 30k kms.
So as long as you stick with Hero or Yamaha. You are good.
All the best for the bike hunt.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Dude. Then distance from engine-death is 29K now for my CT100B

Just kidding. I understand that Bajaj bikes have almost no resale value, I asked around offline. I will try selling it after 10-15K kms and willl post my experience in few months.

For the OP, at mileage of 35-40, you will ride for 45 km every single day. That will be costly I think. I travelled on my CT100B for 70k in one day and because of 80+ mileage I was having my mind at peace, which would not have been possible with a 40K mileage bike. I am not trying to insult you over your choices, I guess choice of bike depends a lot on age and priorities

Arnuld at a mileage of 35-40km riding 45km would not be costly for me,i can go with it ,thats why I mentioned it in my query & secondly nobody goes to college on a bike like ct 100b,i would rather walk to my college rather than going on that bike.
                  Anyways thanks for suggestion..

No problem dude, I had a second hand Discover a few years ago. It was a waste of 22k rupees, did not even ride it for 5K kms. Sold it off for less than half the money six month later. Never again. A new Bajaj, yes may be, but a second hand one.... I'd rather walk.

That's hilarious. I remember saying the same thing to my mom, and got myself a CBR; it's worth the wait

Karizma's spare parts are difficult to find as per my experience and some spare parts (brake pads) are ridiculously priced.

FZ may or may not return 40-45kpl even on highways (if you ride above 80) (i own a 2011 fzs)

try finding a good RTR 180 ABS with under 20k kms on the odo
There is no destination, I just want to keep riding.

                          Honda CBR 650F / CBR 250R ABS Repsol (Sold) / Yamaha FZ-S

What's the current mileage of your fz-s in city?

with low pressure in rear tyre (a lot of cracks and micropunctures, 20-24psi at rear) i am getting 33-34kpl.

When tyre was fine and properly inflated, i used to get 37-44kpl depending on single (42-44) or double (37-38kpl) riding.
