  • Honda unicorn 160 vs Hero Splendor ismart 110(new one)

    Hello,

I stay in Mumbai and usually travel between the city. Highway sometimes
    80% city 20% highway.
    splendor would cost 61-62k
Unicorn would cost 84k or so.

Which one would be value for money? i plan to service it my self and basically keep this as a spare bike.
ill be getting a yamaha rx along with this, later on maybe even a bullet.

splendor would give an average of 80-90 easy. ismart.
    unicorn 55-65?

I dont ride fast or i would have gone for the gixxer.

i ride around 50-60 MAX chilled on and i use it just for commute.
Pros and cons of both please.

    Thread approved!

A 100-110cc commuter would make more sense for your usage. You may expect a realistic 80ish kmpl from a 100cc bike if ridden under 50 all the time. However, you cannot ride a Hornet under 50 for it to go through its gears without lugging the engine. Ridden under 60-65, the Hornet may deliver up to 55 kmpl.
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

You have not provided ur complete details like ur age, weight, whether you are riding along with pillion (heavy pillion) etc.
If you are riding a lone almost all the time and your weight is under 70k and you dont ride with pillion then i would suggest you to go ahead with ismart it will give you a good mileage less maintenance as compare to unicorn honda parts are more costlier it is like white elephant if your not planning for long ride then go for 100cc motorcycle. you may opt for yamaha salute also it is mileage bike with more power. perfect for city condition it has more torque.

I'm 22, weight 60, and I'll be riding alone most of the time. I just hope the ismart has proper comfort. I guess I'll lock it. Thanks for the quick replies

The two bikes selected by you are of different category. To get the mix of both the bikes, you might want to do with a 125cc commuter like Glamour/Shine/Saluto/Victor. iSmart 110 will give you good mileage(I guess around 65 kmpl in mixed riding conditions) but will put itself under a bit of stress if you hit the highway or go above 60kmph+(which you won't do as per your post).
On the other hand, Uni 160 is more of a powerful commuter for which, you may never utilize all the horses and bhps within the city limits. Is really comfortable and has relaxed and powerful engine for the pillion. You can get around 50 kmpl on a Uni160 in real world scenarios.
Decide what do you want. Power or mileage? Or a mixture of both by opting for a 125cc?
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Honestly I want a bike which has decent power/comfort/mileage.

            I really like the gixxer.
But its for about 90k and mileage is 40-45

It would be easier to choose your ride if you can order your priorities.
Which of the above three is the most important to you?

If mileage is most important, then 100-110cc is the best category. Do not expect much power from this class of vehicles.
If you want a balance between power and mileage, then 125cc would be a good bet.

Since 40-45kmpl mileage is not good for you, then you should not look at the 150cc class as in stop-n-go traffic, you might end up getting even less.

                True,
125 cc bikes seem to be more practical.
                yamaha salute
                seems like a good option.
                any more suggestions?
                whats its real world mileage?

My scooter gives me 40-45, so im expecting more

Good or not, only time will tell.
Bajaj is known for spewing out a large number of models and then quickly discontinuing the same.
Hence buying a newly launched model entails some risks.

Keeping these aside, if you are ok with 40-45 (50 max) mileage in city, then only look at 150cc class.
Do note that since your riding does include highway riding, you might just feel under-powered on a 100-125cc bike (saying from my experience when I used to ride my Discover 125). If you can keep that control of 60kmph then this should not be a problem.

Bajaj v costs 60k or so.
And the average is 50-60 I asked a few people on the road.
And I really like the design and I'm sure its comfortable? Is it?
                      I'll be servicing my self/mechanic.
The only worry with Bajaj is I heard they're not reliable. Like engine wise etc. Is it true?

Saluto is a very good option ... no doubts. It's the lightest 125cc with one of the smoothest engines around.
