hey buddy, YES its is possible to fit after market forks on firefox bikes, btw which fork are you plannin to fit on your bike (model)?

certain things you have to keep in mind are headtube diameters . for eg 1 inch or 1, 1/8th inch. since you mentioned you're using a firefox, m sure it has a 1, 1/8th inch headtube. and secondly the length of the steerer tube of your fork should be long enough to accomodate the headset and the stem, provided you're using a clamp on stem. do send me pix of the fork as well as the bike. also mention the length of the headtube, and the length of the steerer tube of your fork.

Hi Everyone
This is Rajiv from Bangalore...I resumed my biking after 4 years...and for that I got a viper......Initially I thought of Merida TFS100 but to save some money I ended up with Viper...Sometimes back I was thinking that I compromised with the quality to save money, but then I came acroos this blog and "artificialindulgence"...
Seriously his expertise and experience is quite inspiring...I am really glad to know his confidence on viper...Still I m facing some issue with my disc brakes...as u may be already aware of the complains against service of firefox in Bangalore, so most the guys love to do the maintenance by themselves...but being new I am facing some problem for that also...my biggest problem is my front disc brake which is not working at all. I am happy with my suspension, but want to upgrade other equipments as you have mentioned...I want to know wher can I get those and how much I need to spend...cheers and happy biking to all

so you've got the torq huh?! hmm, looks like its got a long head tube, i guess around 6 or 7 inches. you could ask the firefox dealer to get you a rockshox (better) or a RST (kinda okay) fork. rockshox would obviously be more expensive. these forks are entry level forks, so you should get it around 5000 rupees..if you wanna go for higher end, then it might cost you much much more. also make sure that the dealer's giving you a fork which has got a very long steerer tube, which in this case is more than 7 inches. maybe around 10 or 11 inches should be fine. but this is very important. where are you from btw? if you're close to pune, you could get lots of hi end second hand suspension forks by marzocchi or manitou and even rockshox and rst. for maybe around 6 or 7 k. these forks are fully hydraulic and fully adjustable.

the recent pic of my firefox viper.

manitou stance suspension fork, with magnesium sliders, cro moly stanchions. travel adjustable from 110 mm to 150 mm.

other upgrades, shimano alivio crankset, shimano xt squaretaper (oldschool ) bottom bracket. 'powertools' cnc machined stem , butted 6061 aluminum handle bar.

shimano 160 mm rear rotor , with custom made alloy adapter for the caliper.

front brake . none!!! its bcuz i still have to make an adapter for the disc post mount on the fork. it doesnt accept standard discbrake calipers.

frame stock
wheelset stock except for the front hub, which has a 20 mm thru axle, not the regular 10mm bolted axle.
kenda bluegroove 2.35 inch tires

when did you buy your viper??
recently?? in that case, i just wanna tell you that the vipers brakes have a long wear in period. just try ridin with the front brake slightly squeezed, so that the pads rub the rotor a bit. ride that way for a while, so that the pads wear off. you could also try sanding the brake pads and the rotors a bit. also have you checked your brake cable, do you have to squeeze the lever a lot for the brake to get engaged? if thats the case, just pull the cable a bit, and the brake arm too, and then tighten the cable, make sure that the pads dont rub the rotor. just leave a hairline gap in between the rotor and the pads.
