Well I was thinking of adding a Rear Disc to my Bike as I use the rear brake more often and I know it looks cool too..

I want to know how much will it cost and how should I get it done keeping in what and what..

Appreciate your initiative of thinking about getting a disc for rear.

If you are in Delhi, contact Iqbal, an ace when it comes to Disc set up. He has successfully plonked a rear disc in one of the FZ16 with a twin disc setup for front. The cost and everything can be cascaded should the need arise.

If you are doing for looks, then its a different scenario, but using the rear brake more than front is unsafe during emergency braking, or normal braking also.

Furthermore, the bike does not have such a high speed or momentum that it warrants a rear brake.

i would love to have a rear disc...drums really lock up easily...
but i really doubt how effective an aftermarket disc will be???

no the bike may not have the high speed to require a disc at the rear but the drum at the rear is quite pathetic at times...everyday atleast once i lock up on my ride to office or home....so would be helpful if u guys provide contacts of people who can do this than debate the actual idea of puttin the rear disc...I mean no offense jd but i think we should give the owner credit that he has driven the bike and knows what it wants why....so peace....

they are quite effective....one of my friends had done it on a pulsar 200 with a modified r15 faring and under seat exhaust(just wanted to mention the other mods too cause they looked cool ) ...looked good and no locking of wheels at tight spots.....

Guys will be helpful if u can suggest such a mech in the mumbai area too...thnx...

I am doing this mod because I use rear brake much often and the rear drum needs to be fixed every weekend because it gets loose.. Rear Disc will add more looks to already a sexy machine that is an added advantage..

I cruise at speeds of around 80-90 and I need powerful braking.. FZ disc is great.. but I want something if I press the rear and front at the same time the bike stops in not much time...

I live in kanpur and it is possible for me to go to lucknow to get it done.. or I will get it done by local mechanics just need the procedure and will guide them through ..

i am not dis crediting the owner or anything, but honestly even the R15 has a greater amount of braking than necessary at the rear due to a disc. As a testament the indonesian/malaysian version of the bike dont even come with a rear disc, its only in india that you get a disc.

Disc brakes have lesser wear and they are lesser prone to fade. This is something that has been answered aptly by krates in the post below. BUt you will lock up you rear as readily in a drum, as in a disc.. depends what you are used to or get used to.



@krates - just be careful to make sure that everything is properly aligned and there is no disbalance in the installation.

If possible, get the entire rear disc setup of the R15 fabricated and mounted on the rear rim of the FZ.

Point noted...but that is exactly wat even i am looking at...the R15's rear setup on the fz's rim....is it even possible???
