Exclamation Help me pls.......Unicorn issue......

Hello,
I was post this msg on "Motorcycle Ownership Experiences" thread but till now no reply, so here I go again.......

Hi,

I am from Bangladesh, owner of Honda Unicorn-2008(pearl black). U know after sold out my old Chinese bike I wait about 6 month to chose some good one and finally get this bike, at beginning I was so happy with her performance and I do know the initial stage of engine breakin, so I never rev it until I reach 650km on odo…..I keept my speed at 45-50mph nd 3.5k rpm all those time……now she cross his 4 month of age and 2860km on odo…….done 2 service at the dealers workshope……..everything was just fine before the 2nd service take in place…….after the second service I get some short of sound from the engine while in the idle/gear neutral mode, like thak thak thak thak…….so I went next day to the service guy, at first he chked if it’s from tapet sound, to confirm he open the engine head and thoroughly check the rocker section and notice nothing, then he told me that its normal nd nothing to worry about…..i told him that before service their was no sound but after service how it happen also I know some other uni’s which done their 5th service nd odo reading is 18000km+ not have this type of sound…….he reply that not every bike give same appearance , every bike r different than others hence this is normal beside my pickup and fuel consumption r same as before……I was totally unhappy with his repply……so on the very next day I went to chk with the one and only Honda approved service center in Dhaka……..after submitting my complain--- same reply…..they say its normal sound and they don’t understand why I am asking that an issue with the engine….also they are arguing with me to show them any other silent uni’s……then they might do understand what I say about…………..pls help me………..what I do to resolved this……below are the chklist which I allready checked.......

1. Gasket head cover- Its all ok no lekage.
2. Air Filter- Good condition.
3. Lifter assy tensioner- Working.
4. engine Oil- Replace it on second service with Castrol Active 20w40

what do i do now.............what i am missing........

i heard that sound. Does it persist when you ride the bike as well? Thats one helluva sound that too from a smooth and silent Unicorn!
This seems timing chain problem coupled with some other issue. It could be a loose bolt or something inside the engine (but seems unlikely). Or probably next time u go to the Honda Service Centre ask those guys to show you a Unicorn with the same noise as yours. I am sure there must be other unicorns at the service centre. Ask them to start one of those and then u will be able to prove that the noise is abnormal. U need to get a bit agrressive sometimes

Open timing chain cover and then tell the mechanic either to test by replacing it or tightening it.
In worst case, 'CRANK' maybe gone.

Hey tell me one thing.. Did u record that sound keeping your cell or whatever recording device very close to engine??

I somehow feel its the tappet noise itself. IF it is the cam chain (timing chain) noise then u wont get that tapping noise. My cam chain is weak from past 25k kms and its not an issue apart from that noise.

If its the tappet noise, tell the showroom guys to set the tappet once and further if that noise appears simply ignore it. Uni becomes smoother with bit of age.

I would say ignore the sound for couple more hundred kms.

Hi,

Its recorded from 3feet apart from the engine in an underground parking lot......underground parking lots r usually silent then ny other places......so i think the sound get more gain by the concreat reflection.....

you know I get this sound even on the road.....on a traffic signal with helmet on my head waiting on gear neutral position for the green signal........just borring thak thak thak thak thak......

well to follow ur advice....will chk the tapet settings again......

GUYS WOULD U PLS ADVICE ME ON ENGINE OIL........IN BANGLADESH NO HONDA LUBE AVAILABLE, EVEN ON HONDA SERVICE CENTER.........ONLY CASTROL, CALTEX, HPX, MOBIL, R AVAILBLE FOR MOTORCYCLE........I RECENTLY USE CASTROL ACTIVE 4T 20W40.

Regards.
