  • touring on pulsar 150

    i am planning to take my pulsar 150cc ug2 on a long trip to the hills
    my two close cousins will be accompanying me on their r15 and enfield350.

    my bike is not in the best of conditions and needs a lot of work done on it.
    1. its wiring and battry went kaput some time back coz of the hooters, blinkers, horns i had added. thus i am thinking of converting the whole electrical system(headlights) to dc
    2. also the cruising speed will be an issue as it wont be able to match those two bikes cruising in the 80-90's very easily so thinking about some sprocketing changes(sprockets n chain are 10k kms old so it was needed too)
    some other
    any other suggestions would be welcum....ass i want performance boosts too without losing on the fuel economy as it give only 40kmpl

      Dude 1st thing, i'll introduce you to the reality. You can't get performance mods without compromising on the FE.
      When touring, it is advisable to use a bike that has minimal mods. The lesser the mods, the lesser are the chances of a break-down.

        Dude a P150 can run for long periods at 80-90! It won't cruise above that though! Don't do a lot of mods if u are into touring or else you'd pay dearly in case of a breakdown in the middle of nowhere.

          i have p150 ug3 have done a 1500km trip , this machine can stay between 80-90 with no prob. better u give 5 min rest @ 100km so that it doesn't get over heated . my suggestion is instead of modifications to engine better you so for soft seats which will be a big boon for you, i did the same before my tour and it really helps to travel atleast 60 -70 kms extra than normal one. You can go for sprocketing but don't ever over do it ,it will be pain in climbing . 2 teeth less at rear will do the trick here . all the best and have safe riding .
          on 4 wheels u feel the speed after a crash, 2 wheelers are much more advanced

            As all the above said it is preferable to get the least mods if touring is your preference. One of the problems that arises is that suppose if you get a performance kits installed in a fully computerized service center and if your bike breaks down at one of the remote areas on a hill where forget having a computerized service station.Then you land up in a mess.The local mechs have least idea about performance upgrades.

            I guess pabi would be in agreement with me as he would have remote locations in mullayangiri.

            @hotshot.vipin:My advice would be to get your ride to stock riding condition and enjoy long rides.

              and take a careful eye on that engine oil level while high speed riding on P150

              also, use good oil.. I would recommend with exp with p150:
              1. Mineral --> Gulf 20W40 210 Rs.
              2. semi synthetic --> Valvoline 310 Rs. OR Motul 450 rs.
              3. fully synth.. --> Motul around 850..
