Unhappy ZMR refuses to start

I have seen a few threads with similar titles, but the problem description differed, hence a new thread.
So, I have a Karizma ZMR which has been giving me a few head aches recently.

A few months back, my bike refused to start at all. I went for a movie and I'd to return home by auto. I took it to the SVC and they simply tightened the battery cables.
P.S :- In this case, the display of the bike was not switching on, so it was easy to make out that a loose battery connection was the culprit.

Now, lets come to the present. For a couple of days, I feel the problem has resurfaced.
The display comes on, but the bike doesn't start. In order to start it, I follow these steps until one clicks:-
a. Open the fuel cover for air intake and close it.
b. Keep pressing the starter for say 15-20 sec while the bike is in 1st gear.
c. Keep pressing the starter in quick succession, like 5 times in 2-3 seconds.
d. Push start the bike. (Most embarrassing)

Guys, plz help me... What should I do????
It certainly is not a wiring/ battery problem!!! What is it???

Could be a problem with Air in the fuel line or something. Do you feel loss of power / fuel when you start your ride or while riding?

  1. Get the Wiring Checked.
  2. Try changing the fuel lid.
  3. Check for any problems in fuel line + tank

Plz do not keep the starter pressed for so long first of all...as you said the bike isnt starting by dhakka start also...so might be a fuel pump issue...please contact your nearest service centre as soon as possible...i was having the same problem....n the problem was with the fuel pump...so better get it checked as soon as possible

How old is your bike?Is it in warranty period? If yes, take it to the nearest ASC and get it checked.

Question

@Aneesh: Yes, the bike is only 10 months old and I've done just 6000 kms on it.

@Vishal_91: Does pressing the starter for a long tym harm the electricals or the battery??? Coz I read it as a troubleshooting tip in the manual HH provided along with the bike.

The starter motor is not rated for continuous rating...so don't keep the starter button pressed for more than 5 seconds. If you have to repeat it then give 1 minute gap between each try..if the bike doesn't start in 4 tries, don't use self starter as it will bring the battery to nill charge condition soon...
You should check for Fuel Pump problem...go to SVC and get it corrected within the warranty period as the part is an expensive one.
