@ Prince,
yeah, i also think it was a fake oil. Also a can of power1 gave problems that too purchased from castrol dealer!!
I'm sacred of castrol now.
About burning smell; some bad quality oil (read fake oils) can burn (technically, its oxidised) in crankcase even under normal temperatures giving out burning smell and causes problems.
And about oil grade recommendations; yes no major changes in engine so 20w40 should work fine atleast under normal riding.
.
Btw, thread starter has found out the problem and thats with spark plugs, not engine oil. So its kinda of topic, right??
I believe we should move on to "engine oil" thread for further discussion..

Anyway, the point is, see if there're any white colored areas or white residues over the plug. Ideally it should be in brownish black all over, to indicate that the vehicle is running a right AF mixture. I'm suspecting in your case that it should be white, meaning, your AF mixture is lean & the carb has to be tuned.

One primary question which I should've asked earlier, how are you sure that the engine is overheating? It could be normal too, any concrete proofs?

yes, plz answer this, as i too was doubtfull, thats why i asked u a lot of questions.

On the engine oil front, can you confirm the grade of your engine oil? Is it 20W-50, 20W-40, 10W30 etc? Also confirm the type if it is Mineral, SS or FS; and, pls confirm if you changed the engine oil by yourself or through BASC or any mechanic in your locality.
plz post clear, crisp and close-up photos of plugs

check tyre pressure and correct if required. front-28 rear-32.
No Issue.

Quote:
very important - check chain tightness/slack. a chain too tight may give similar problems. check if the chain is too tight. and check at all locations throughout the length of chain.
Quote:
as said earlier, if tyre pressure and chain tightness is ok.
Quote:
check if either front or rear brakes are too tight, check by rotating the tyres while on center stand. wheels should rotate freely and there should not be much of a "grinding sound".
All good.

Quote:
check both wheel bearings and sprocket bearings.
the idea of checking the above is to find out if there is any obstruction in the bike to run properly.
Again fine.

Quote:
i am assuming you have not put any mudflap of cardboard in front of engine, like many people do in rainy season. as it obstructs the flow of air to engine.
No Mud Flap.

Quote:
now the engine is overheating and there is a burning smell from engine, burning smell is the smell of burning clutch plates caused either by clutch plate slipping or engine overheat.
such situations also arise when you ride too slow for too long like in bumper to bumper traffic, so that is not a problem, or stop go situations in hill climbing. make sure you are not in these two situations.
No such traffic/ No hilly road.

Quote:
also check oil level?
also check if oil is leaking from somewhere, because burning oil will also produce sound. if there is oil on or around engine or gearbox, when it gets heated, it burns and give burning smell.
I got the oil replaced when I sensed the oveheating issue.

now you also need to tell us--
Quote:
is there too much smoke from exhaust?
No.

Quote:
you said there is strange noise from engine, you need to identify the noise, what type of sound is it? and from where it is coming??
It is the usual noise which is heard when we accelerate hard.

Quote:
you also have to tell whether this problem started after doing servicing or in between??
After 1 month of the servicing (done in Dec last week), this started.

Quote:
you said one year old pulsar and only 4000 kms done, it means you must not have done all free servicing properly? correct me if i am wrong..
is this burning smell coming after you started the bike after letting it stand untouched for months??
The idle period was for about one and a half month (Nov-Dec). Last week of December I had done my first paid service immedeately after the idle period (3rd Overall Service, Missed the 3rd free service)

After I re-fitted the same spark plug, there was no strain (that was there earlier) above 55-60 kph, ride was smooth. Moreover, the gearshifts that were hard before are not hard now (after refitting).

There are no such white patches on he spark plug.

The overheating still persists.

Sorry for late reply.
