check for the petrol mixture screw on the carb... check if its tuned for lean mixture or rich... i feel its set for rich mixture... i believe rich mixture gives u more power....

Well as far as V1 is considered

You cannot do much on the Mileage almost every V1 gives only lessthan 35KMPL

I do had a THird hand V1 for 3months - i tried almost every aspect to get a good mileage - nothing worked it stayed to give only 30
I even tried to make it under 60 alltime - but it doesnt matter
Even you rip her hard ride her softly she will return only Poor mileage

Facts for Lesser Mileage:
1 - Heavier Body
2 - Superb engine
3 - Older efficiency systems

DTSI modela can give better mileage - this was the fact that Pulsars were Given DTSI Technology

Nothing else can be done for its mileage improvement
Even bajaj said V1 can give only that much mileage

@Sunny- thanks for approving

@pk28.karthik - tuened it according to feel....its been made a few turns on the rich side ..will try making it a bit leaner n see

@Thunder - mine is the dtsi one with exaustech and 18 inch rims...not the classic ..yes its got a better engine than the newer one's acc to me too. but the milage is still too low.i mean i 180 too gives similar if not better figures

any other possibility's of low economy??

Hey Karthik!

Bud, please don't feel that I am contradicting you, but then a richer mixture would give you a cooler engine, & if you make it too rich, a carbonized engine, which will soon start heating up a lot due to carbon deposits & if things get much worse, pre-ignition due to these very carbon deposits.

To increase engine power, one has to increase the fuel amount & also the oxygen content, so that the fuel can be burnt efficiently to release maximum power. That's why nitrogen oxide is called rocket fuel, because apart from having the fuel (in the form of nitrogen gas), it gets additional oxygen when it breaks up into constituent molecules.

Richard, I don't have any idea about Pulsars specifically but then I feel that the possible causes for a low mileage if the carburettor settings are good, could be a simple leak, & if things aren't as good, then it could as well be your bike needing an oversize, which I don't know if it's available for Pulsars. Get your bike checked, after you have made sure that it's not a leak & that the carburettor setting is good (i.e. not too rich).

Take care.

Happy thumping,
Prakhar

Dude that is what i was telling... richard has mileage issues and since the mixture is richer petrol consumption will be more.... getting my point.... i aint no expert but still applying some mechanics in here....

@ richard
let me know the result after tuning back the carb....and also check for the petrol tap for any leakages or breakages..also check pipe which brings air to the carb.... sometimes the petrol flows back into the air pipe leading to petrol wastage(hence consuming more petrol\)...

@prakash_mvpa - what is ecu tuning where can it be done and how much will it cost

@blackfire_9 - agreed...i keep my air filter very clean so there is always good breating..so the bit rich mix..

@pk28.karthik - have got the carb tuned back to default by the mech...but the bike is now feeling a bit ruff and strained(Clear proformance drop noticed)...there is an increase in mileage though but its still quite low, it gave me around 37 this time...and yes there is a leak but not on the air pipe..but on the pipe that connects the carb to the head...i think its made of plastic??
