  • Bajaj Auto upgrades the Platina 125 & 'American Chopper' Runs Out Of Gas!!!

Bajaj Auto has upgraded the Platina 125 with 5-speed gear box and new graphics. The 125cc bike’s 4-stroke air-cooled engine now produces 8.5PS of power at 7000 rpm (down 1PS in the interest of mileage). The new Platina 125 is priced at Rs. 36,000/- (ex showroom, Bangalore) for the electric start version.

    Tech specs:
    Max power 8.5 PS @ 7000 RPM
    Max Torque 10.5 Nm @ 4000 RPM
    5 speed gearbox
    17 Inch Black Alloy Wheels
Front and rear drum brakes – 110mm
    1275mm Wheel Base
    160 mm Ground Clearance

And in the other news TLC is closing shop on the much beloved 'American Chopper,' the reality show that chronicled the real-life drama of Paul Teutul Sr. and his sons, Paul Jr. and Mikey, as they built bikes and a business. So the top custom bike building series, the American Chopper goes off air from 11th February 2010. The reason you may inquire, typical yankee redneck drama.

Correction about the American Chopper news!
I would like to add to it that unfortunatley the American Chopper just refuses to die! Yes its coming back and yes its going to be horrible again!

I think they have discontinued the Discover 125.

But i seriously wonder how BAJAJ manages to launch different iterations of an engine/model so soon.

Moderators, kindly separate the 2 topics... How can we discuss 2 unrelated topics in one?
Separate my post, into another topic, and edit titles please.

America’s top custom bike building series, the American Chopper went off air from February 2010. The decision to axe the show came after the father-son duo of Paul Teutel Sr. and Paul Teutul Jr. locked horns against each other after an argument regarding the control of OCC. Apparently, Pauly (Jr.) wanted to be the decision maker at OCC, however, Paul Sr. was not ready to leave his throne and let Pauly takeover. Thus both of them got into an argument while the show was being watched by million of viewers around the world. However, this time things got a bit out of hand as Paul Jr. decided to file a lawsuit against his father ultimately dragging him to court. This is one of the biggest reasons why the reality series came to a halt suddenly after seven years.
          Source: FAREWELL AMERICAN CHOPPER

Guys, they were always arguing anyways... I didn't see one episode without their arguing and disagreements. Almost every episode was a father vs son event.

I hope the series is restarted, by whosoever wins this lawsuit.

          ----
Now the second topic: If Platina becomes torquier, it certainly means better.
So, no complaints about the power loss.

Thanks to Sunnybhai for his approval. May peace be upon you!

About American chopper: Glad to see it ending, and hate to see it go, but it's been gone for quite awhile. Once the show got away from the bike building and spending so much time on extracurricular activities, then later on family feuding, it was never the same show. I mean come on did you see the show lately? With mikey in rehab, Sr not talking to Jr as the pass each other in hall and whole family spending money recklessly and showing prefab bikes as construction bikes! Damn, if I had to put up this stuff I might better watch MTV's reality shows at least they have decency to show some awesome girl-on-girl-Koshti(Wrestling) on their shows or better yet watch "Horny Doctors"!(a.k.a. Grey's Anatomy) If they are not showing how they build jaw dropping choppers being build from scratch what is the point in watching the show???

Also about featuring 2 news in 1 thread is a calculated move just as to prevent pointless and long threads as we try to make sense of corporate psyche and do some brand bashing. Mods are free to separate them if they please.

OK, the Platina 125 news got diluted.

Did you notice a single spark engine? No DTSi or DTS Si here. Is Bajaj trying regular engines again?

I read it in Overdrive and was surprised there's hardly any discussion about it on xBhp.

See here: Bajaj Launches Platina 125 - Bajaj Auto - News : Overdrive

This article doesn't speak about single spark but the April 2010 Overdrive does. Anyways, see the bike's photo. There's no spark plug on the right side.

                        Thats probably to reduce costs.

The new bike is almost 4k cheaper than its earlier sibling.

@ cicatrix......its no upgrade for the Platina 125,its plain degrade.I simply wonder where the 125cc for Bajaj has gone to...........I refuse to believe now that they had Wind125 from these same stables, even though it was a Kawasaki bike but still.
Even their latest Pulsar 135LS wont be able to match the Wind 125.Pulsar LS may be faster but it is not as strong as Wind.
When I first saw Platina125,I thought Wind 125 would revive but this makes it fall away.

Bajaj is playing a really intelligent game.
They have been just using the same type of engines changing things slightly each time they build a new bike.
The different shapes give a variety to the customers and the slightly different engines each with qualities such as one with better mileage, one with slightly better acceleration just adds spice to these tiny variations.
Thus though the customers are getting choices,Bajaj is still getting economies of scale which is achieved even when a firm produces slightly differentiated goods.
And by launching these new bikes(albeit almost similar)Bajaj can boast of giving a lot of importance to R&D facilities and the smooth talking done by its dealers easily sways the general public to think that it's 100% right.
even in the Pulsar LS almost everthing is taken from the XCD,It has just been changed here and there and even its 135cc engine is just a bit tuned up.
