  • Gross quality issue with IRC tyres of Ninja 250r

Recently I have faced an issue with my Ninja 250r, and mind it! it was life threating to me. It was a catastrophic loss of air in the front tire which I faced while I was crusing on 100kmph on a Highway. A minor would have still be fine but my whole tyre was flat, I somehow managed to handle the bike and took it to the corner of the road and saw that how come a tubeless tyre got flat all of a sudden.

I took it to the nearest puncture shop and found that there was no Puncture or Valve leakage in the tyre but it was even more dangerous. It was a side wall damage, really can not believe that the bike like Ninja 250r which is the best 250 cc bike in the world can be sold with such quality tyres when it comes to India. This is something that Kawasaki should watch while having the alliance with companies like Bajaj. I am not blaiming Bajaj here but with great power comes the great responsibility, and they should understand it.

The same day I took it to the Bajaj probiking in Noida and they also checked the same and confirmed that it was a side wall damage, which initially started with a small bubble and then all of a sudden got burst, just like a blister. But what they did? they took some pictures; kept the bike for one full day; created a report and just went back. On that they also had got the gutts to tell me that because my bike has done 9000kms this can happen because of the tear and wear of the tyre, but they forgot, that a person who has a ridden a bike for so long understand that with wear and tear tyre gets damages on the surface that hits the ground and not the side walls, where in there is no damage on the rims either. This is purely a manufacturing flaw.

Few days later I got a call, saying that they have sent the report to the factory and they shall take time around 1 to 1.5 months, in the mean while they gave me a suggestion that I should change the tyre (as if I was about to ride the bike with the similar tyre ), and they should reimburse me the amount whatever it comes after the report's assessment. I was still fine I asked them to get me a tyre then. Again after some days I got a call stating that front tyre for my Ninja has arrived, which was same IRC 110/70/17 and for that I was told that the tyre costs INR 6000/-. I said OK but let me check in the market first, and can you beat it that the same tyre is available in the market for just INR 1650/-

Really dont know who to believe on now when companies will do this...I was really very keen for going for an upgrade for Ninja 650R which is around the corners to be launched but now I am reconsidernig my thoughts, as the quality is not as good as what they provide in the international market. I think that Kawasaki thinks that Indian are fool and let's sell them anything and they will buy it.... I am really irate with this....

      Quite horrifying to read this.

Any idea what might have caused it? Could anybody have messed with the tyre?

It can never be somebody else messing up the tyre like this, as this is on the side wall which is quite safely hidden inside the rim... It is for sure the quality issue...moreover, when a tyre gets blister leaves different marks then when it is cut... just like a human body...on a cut you get different scar where as on the burn you get different scar...

Ninja 250 is known to have bad tyres. This was a recurring issue. Even abroad. I did not know however that they were shodding IRCs here. Pity for a 3L INR motorcycle!

            IRCs suck...
They are far worse in wet.
Someone has blood on his hands for shodding this bike with plastic hard tyres of third world quality.
They are like real chinese tyres

Glad you are ok mate ! I feel your rage on this.

              The tires cost 13,000.
I expected quality to be very good for high price. But I didnt expect such problems from it.

When you told me about this , my first thought was the same "Companies think that we Indians are less educated on this"
And that Rs6000 for just the front tyre is too much now.
I know you are going to take their happiness away now.

                BTW Have you called them??

When I went to review the Ninja 250R when it came to the Gurgaon PBK, my first question was, what I want to change the tires from the word go, I don't want IRC on my bike, I would rather go for Michelin. What the manager said was way out of my imagination. He said that first Bajaj would not change the tyres for me. Second, IRC are the best tyres that money can buy. Third changing the tyres the would void my warranty on the bike, because if I crash because of the bike, then Bajaj would not be responsible.

Well the conversation already drove me nuts after his second point, so just concentrated on reviewing the bike.

And this happened with Manan. Really, I want to take Manan to the Gurgaon PBK Manager and show him what happens when jar heads try to act way to smart and consider customers dumb.

I'm so glad that you are safe and unhurt Manan Bro!! \m/

Education is the key. Of course for some illiterate uneducated nincompoop floor managers, IRC is indeed the best tyres that money can buy for a motorcycle that delivers 30+Bhp!

@All: Thanks for your concern and being happy that I am unhurt! That's what makes XBHP a family more than just a community.

I truly believe Bajaj and other manufacturers are watching and reading this thread and will take some lessons, that Indian market is that fool as much they think...

I really have no hopes with Bajaj taking lessons as they are already on Prowl of getting population controlled... first they gave bikes like p200 that had a problem with their forks that use to get break causing threat to customers' life, when they failed in that keeping the population under control than they come up with other strategy of providing such a bad quality of tyres that can burst anytime causing death threat to the rider...

Its first time that i am hearing such kind of rule. I know that we cant interfere with the electrical part & engine part but dint knew that it is applicable to the tyres part also.
