  • Honda cbr250r fuel tank capacity

Hi guys. Honda cbr250r has a fuel tank of about 13 liters. I have heard that you have to maintain minimum of 3 to 5 liters to keep the fuel injection pump submerged or something like that. That gives a usable capacity of 8 to 10 liters giving it a range of about 200 to 250 kilometers assuming it gives an average of 25kmpl on hills. (it may be less as we would be driving in lower gears most of the time) This may limit it's usability as a tourer as I have read in a few blogs that especially in Leh Ladakh region it is not easy to get good fuel at a lot of locations. Would fitting a larger capacity tank on the bike be a possibility? I have heard that in royal enfield larger capacity fuel tanks can be fitted. Would it be possible in Cbr as well?

Nothing is impossible; everything can be done.
OTOH - Carry a jerry can when you're on such regions unless you're living in those areas & commuting 365+ Kms one way everyday.

          :O

First of running on low fuel REGULARLY is what is NOT RECOMMENDED.Once in a while is not a prob.In-fact there are tons of R15/ZMR users who run around regularly with 100-200 rs of fuel.

            Err...don't know what to say...
There's a section on trip to Leh & you don't get fuel for next 360+ odd Kms. Unless one has a motorcycle that yields insane FE or huge fuel tank or carry it in jerry can, it may not be possible to complete that stretch.

If you consider carrying a jerry can is illegal, then you can opt for bigger tank as such. Ofcourse it should come with a price of 10 times or more than the price of jerry can.

BTW, most people DO CARRY jerry can in that stretch if you happen to notice.

You can do Tandi (where the last petrol pump is, and is 365 before Leh) - Leh on any 150cc without re-fueling. People have done Manali - Leh on Pulsar classics (18L capacity) without the need of a re-fuel.

Araey Kurt - He's apprehensive about C250R where the usable fuel limit is about 8 liters & to consider the fact that C250R returns only 25 Kmpl on hills.

I think it may be unofficially accepted carrying fuel in jerry cans as there is no other possibility. When I go there I would do the same although I would have much preferred having a range of 400 + Kilometers on the bike. But unfortunately it is what it is. I would have definitely loved an 18 Liter tank on the CBR 250r which would have definitely made it a "Tourer".

BTW Honda VFR 1200 F has a fuel tank of 18.5 Liters. Its red shade matches the CBR's red perfectly. I am wondering if its fuel tank would fit the CBR. (Even if it does I am not sure whether its fuel tank would itself cost more than the CBR)

I was surprised at you asking abt expanding your existing tank.
Now im blank at you asking abt replacing it with the VFR's! :O

Maybe that was not a very bright idea however I know that people do this on royal enfield bikes so this is not something unheard of. Frankly I admit that I am probably a bit too concerned about where to fill up petrol from and having more capacity gives you more options. But now I think I am going to stick with Jerry cans.

Btw I would certainly replace the fuel tank with vfr's if it fits without any issues and costs upto 10 - 15 K max. It would give a range of 450 kms on plains if we keep min 3 Liters and about 385 km on hills assuming 30kmpl and 25 kmpl approximately.

                          VFR's fuel tank? Nice idea.
Note - Price of VFR in India is 18.5 Lakhs ex showroom . I leave the cost of the tank to your imagination.

) I already said that I was apprehensive that the Vfr fuel tank
Might cost more than the Cbr itself. Although I did see a few adverts on eBay for old Vfr fuel tanks in good condition selling for about $125 in US. Anyhow thinking about it again I think replacing the tank of Cbr is not going to be as easy or or practical as is the case with royal enfield bikes so dumping the idea as of now.
