  • First Impression - Ducati Multistrada 1200

Have been lucky to sample the various Ducati bikes whilst I wait for my Diavel to be delivered. After the Hypermortad 1100S (which was ok), I was fortunate to sample the Ducati Multistrada for about 3 weeks.

Despite the rains belting Mumbai, managed to take it on 2 trips to Lonavala and many rides around Bandra and the rest of my Neighbourhood. My take on the mean red machine:

    Visual Appearance:

The Multistrada is an impressive package indeed. The Bike is very high, I am almost 6 ft tall and even I had to stretch to get on it, swinging my leg over and when rolling it back, I tend to tip-toe on my toes. It comes across as a massive, huge machine. But its very light. Felt no stress rolling it off the stand or otherwise rolling it out of the drive way.

The paint and the finish is top class and the dashboard cluster looks really neat when it all lights up. Full marks on visual appearance.

    Handling:

Contrary to its appearance, this bike has sportsbike like handling. A true category buster, it does several things. Once you adjust the suspension, even two up, its perfect for Indian roads, soaking up potholes with consumate ease. I took my wife on one of the rides to Lonavala and it was no problem. You can also corner hard, although it takes some time to get accustomed to the high stance of the bike. Brakes are good, although i was expecting some more bike from the Brembo monoblocks. This model was sans ABS, so I guess, I was also a bit over cautious, as i did not want the wheels locking up and skidding on wet roads...

    Performance:

Performance is killer. The thing just shoots like shit off a shovel...one feels the acceleration even more because of the upright seating position. Second gear at redline has me seeing 150kmph + on the speedo. Max I took it two up was 194 kmph and when alone 210kmph before I chickened out....While I am not one too giddy eyed about top speeds, what I like is acceleration, and the Multistrada does not disappoint.

    Conclusion:

I think this is the perfect bike for India, given its high clearance, suspension travel, wind protection, handling and awesome power. The seat is very comfortable and is fine for all day long riding, for both rider as well as pillion and the upright seating position makes it really comfortable.

I am not the one for penning long reviews and will leave that to the pro's on this website. After having ridden a lot of big bikes over the years, I can say that the Multistrada definitely has my vote...its an AWESOME BIKE.

Nice short and crisp review. 150 kays in second gear is mind numbing. I wonder what it can do in sixth.

Congrats on the Diavel. Wishing you many years of happy and safe riding.

To find out how far it can go, I twisted the Throttle on it on a secluded high quality tarmac and managed to touch a maximum of 254 K's per hour on the Multi. That was the fastest the bike was willing to go. I was riding solo and had to snug myself under windshield to reach that figure.

I agree, this bike is really kickass in terms of performance.

Life is like riding a bike. It is impossible to maintain your balance while standing still.

Good short review though I would have liked more pics. How many zeros would one write if filling out a cheque for this?
