What’s with the title you may ask? Well, just “celebrated” another birthday last month. Another landmark crossed. At a small G2G at home, comments were being passed around – ‘you’ve been riding for near 30 years now, isn’t it time you find “safer” ways to tour’? Well, how would they know that a biker’s heart beats to very different rhythm, how would they know that ‘four wheels move the body and two wheels move the soul’? What’s age got to do with a deep rooted passion? A wonderful quote by our good friend Haroon springs to mind – “You don’t stop riding because you get old, You get old because you stop riding!” Hence the title.
The planning :
We (wifey and i) had been planning a visit to the holy shrine of Velankani for quite a while. We usually do it by car or train but the ‘riding bug’ had bitten and it was either two wheels or bust! The RX was ‘indisposed’ so we organized a Suzuki Fiero. P.Md our good friends aargeeand Biru regarding routes and got prompt replies (Thanks Guys).
The Onward Route : Bangalore/Hosur/Krishnagiri/Dharamapuri/Salem/Namakkal/Karur/Trichy/Thanjavur/
Nagapattanam/Velankani.

The Ride:
We just love early morning take offs. The crisp and cool morning air, the thin traffic and the breaking of a new dawn raises up the spirit. We left early as we usually do on our long rides. Got out of the city before the real traffic started and the elevated toll road took us out pretty fast.
It was my first long ride on a four stroke and I was pleasantly surprised at the feel and the response. The bike was comfortable at 100 but I kept to 80 most times. Though the route is not very scenic, the roads were superb and riding was a real pleasure.

Stopped for breakfast at a small roadside shack and had piping hot idly chutney before continuing. The long stretching straight roads can sometimes become monotonous and we sometimes long for the curves and the hills but the smooth roads were awesome and the timing was good.

Since most of the towns have by-passes, we zip through Krishnagiri, Dharamapuri and pass through Salem town and then Namakkal and Karur. We stopped for lunch near Trichy and had typical tasty Tamil Nadu Rice and Sambar.

After refueling at Trichy, we ride on to the heritage rich Thanjavur and as we near the coastal town of Nagapattanam, we see dark clouds gathering at the horizon and heavy rain seems imminent. Luckily, it was just a drizzle and we rode through. We arrive at the holy pilgrimage center of Velankani by evening and check into our room to refresh and later visit the church.

P.S : Most of the road pics were clicked by wifey while on the move
The return ride was by a different route on the ECR.
