  • New Bike with budget of 70k..Need advice

    Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a new bike mainly for commutation to office in Pune and for occasional highway trips between Mumbai and Pune.I'm 5'7 tall and weigh around 65 kgs.I'm looking for a 150cc preferably.I'm confused between Yamaha SZ-R,Honda Unicorn Dazzler,HH Hunk and Yamaha SS125cc.

The features i'm looking for mainly are driving comfort, good looks and not very high maintenance.Mileage above 45 will do.

Also, i'm not sure if some new bike has been launched in Auto Expo recently that fits the bill for my requirements .Kindly enlighten me on that.

    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, what about Hero honda Hunk?.I'm a bit skeptical about availability of spare parts for SZ-R.What will be the OTR price for Unicorn and SZ-R?

OTR prices vary from place to place. If you are expecting better mileage go for the Unicorn.

The SZ doesnt have issues with spare availability as it shares engine from its brethren, yes the same one from FZ. But you cant expect min 45 mileage. I get around 46kmpl mixed city+highway. But in city alone its around 38-40kmpl.
What you can expect out of SZ compared to unicorn is better pickup, good looks, cheaper investment, its about 7k cheaper. Also maintenance/spares are as durable as Unicorn parts and comes a bit cheaper too, which is why i did not mind the mileage much. But remember SZ has very poor resale value. If you buy it you have to buy it for the good machine and nothing else.

pulsar 135 or unicorn for high mileage, commuterish seating posture.135 will cost you less.unicorn is more reliable.you can also consider cbz extreme.i will not suggest sz-r.it has some low mileage issue and absence of pass switch will be pain in the ass on highway
and the question remains why do i race?

Dont you think the Pulsar135 seats are pain in ***,also it vibrates at high speeds? That was one reason why I choose SZ for highway ride, my cousin has one Pulsar135, and i agree pulsar 135 gives good mileage but its visit to service center for one or the other issue is ther also very less fuel tank capacity of just 8lt. Whereas we can fill 14-15lt on SZ. Also I don't see with pass switch the vehicles coming in opposite actually adhering to your signal. they just don't mind. (personal experience). I feel the unicorn here is much better than either SZ or Pulsar135.

p 135 seats does not offer great comfort but i guess that is adequate.if you ride too often on highways or even with in city limits you will know how helpful pass switch is[atleast in my case].p135 do vibrate in the range of 67kmph-80kmph.but i don't think thread starter will ride at that speed too often.vibration issue will be sorted out with proper run in .after 5000km of riding vibration will reduce considerably.member at xbhp has done saddle on p135 so it is a compitent highway cruiser

No offence meant, but are you trying to push that pulsar135 is best against an actually much better unicorn? I have experienced it myself. Also you need to read through the Pulsar 135 ownership thread, where all the ppl complaint about the poor standards. Even though I feel Pulsar135 is a much better bike, the owners don't lie.
With all respect, please dont feel this is a competation here in pushing bikes okay. You need to ride other bikes and then comment on the seats. It really pains your butt after 1-2 hours on it. It feels uncomfy but you can ofcourse get custom soft seats made. Which is what my cousin got done later. No doubt that Pulsar135 is highway compliant, only it comes as a last choice of bike for such rides. But again as you say here the thread owner is not looking for doing saddle on a 135cc to prove something right???

So I feel its better that he goes for a smooth and reliable vehicle like Yamaha or Honda. One other good bike is the Suzuki GS150R, there are issues of spares availabilty and costly parts but then the vehicle is best for highways with 6 gears, good top speed and even after being an 150cc bike it actually gives mileage above 55+

bajaj definitely has quality issues.unicorn is way better anyday.gsr 150 is too heavy thus lack initial pick up but has decent top end.i am definitely not trying to push any sell

For once i agree with you. yes, since the thread owner asked review on bikes he mentioned i.e SZR, hunk, unicorn. So I didn't want to add any other so as to confuse him more.

Yes, the GS is heavy, and that's why its good for highways, any light vehicle like discover, splendor too can reach good speeds but its not actually good to ride on these on highway since they are light their stopping distance and stability will be very worse.

i guess light bike with proper braking will have less stopping distance.less stopping distance does not imply worse.more than weight what matters on highways most is aerodynamic design[wind blast proof fairing].among the three mentioned choice i would buy hunk.[not good handler at parking speed].
and the question remains why do i race?

I wonder why the top selling 150cc bike in India never makes it to these comparos. People discuss everything under the sun and leave out the bike which sells the most.

In case, you still need clarification, I am referring to the Pulsar 150.

Although I myself am driving a Bajaj Caliber 115 (2003) model with no complaints, till date, (I have been to Pangong lake on this bike) but sometime back I had test ride on Pulsar 150 as well as Honda Unicorn. To me Unicorn was much better with smoother ride and good mileage.
