  • should I travel with speed less tghan 40kmph

    Hello Friends

I just got a new R15, I wanted to know whether there is a rule to travel at speed of 40kmph or below for first 1000kms for a better performance of engine. If yes than how can I join with you all for Allegator lake ride and so then I need to wait for 1 month or 1000km of coverage :-(

    regards

If you ride at 40kmph for 25 hours you will complete 1000kms...

Check your service manual for the speeds you need to maintain in each gear. I think the max speed would be about 60-65 during the first 1k kms of running in!

Congrats on the new ride! The manual says avoid prolonged usage at above 5K RPM for 1st 750kms.&after that 7K RPM for the next 750kms.
I kept mine at around 4-4.5K in each gear including top gear, which meant upto 60kmph. till 750kms.&started taking upto 7K in top gear after that, upto 1.5K kms. (After that all hell broke loose) That should do fine if you are concerned about not messing up during the run-in period.
Btw, Moto tune is not for our Indian mopeds. They won't be able to sustain the beating.
If you do higher speeds, take your bike up gradually, it should still be fine.

As I discussed with Yamaha Service guys on this query, he told me that the new bike engine come up with factory finish, mean the engine have tiny iron/steel parts and they must be remove from engine, while riding it will fragment from the engine and mix up with old, if you ride higher RPM, it could damage cylinder slave or other engine part.

Best way to make smooth engine quicker, do long ride in Highway with low RPM and do 1st service ASAP. (also replace oil filter on 1st service in case of R15).

This is my opinion and observation. You can ask some senior members or Yamaha Service Guys

Engine Breakin procedure is very long and there is lot of technicality around it.
Take time to read the information in the link and search for some videos why it is done so.

                      +1 to this..

The idea is to not strain the engine when its new.. You must open it up gradually..
If you really wanna be a part of the r2g, i'd suggest, ride there on some other bike, or go pillion with another member..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

riding at not more than 4000RPM would be fine and do change oil at 150kms and oil filter cleaned.

This is what I ve done with running all me 4 Bikes and they ve worked very well for me.

                          1) 0-500 km keep the bike under 4 - 4.5k rpm religiouslly. If you acheive speed above while riding downhill and all and your RPM is under the above mentioned limit do not worry about it the mantra is to keep it under 4.5 k RPM
                          2) Even in this rev range do not maintain it under constant engine speed and keep varying the engine speeds under the 4.5 k rev range
                          3) 500 - 1000 km - Now you can take the RPM upto 6k keeping in mind point # 2.
                          4) In your second phase that is the 500 -1000 km range give it one or two ripping runs again varying the engine speeds and never holding it under constant RPM
                          5) Religiously do the first service on time and make sue they change the Engine oil and the Oil filter element as the bike ll be new and there will be microscopic metal bits in the oil that may cause minute seizures.
                          6) After 1000km and the engine oil and oil filter elements are changed use the bike normally but be gentle with your right hand till about 2500 kms

This method has worked very well for me on me RX, P180, Electra and now the FZS
