I am happy, we need a good selling product other than the Honda's, competition is good. I just hope Bajaj can sustain it and not go the CT100 way.

Reiterating my previous post..

HH Splendor was launched in Jan 1994.. and in November 2009, the 11 Millionth Splendor was sold. Considering no. of days in 15yrs and 9 months, i.e. approx 5750 days, the Splendor reached that figure at a rate of 1913 splendors/day.. stadily over for more than 15 years (when sales wudnt have been very high)

Current record of Discover 100 DTS-Si is 0.5 Million in 225 days i.e. 2222 Discovers/day

There must have been time periods where splendor had sold much more than this discover average. I have nothing against a high selling bajaj model. But i wish to point out that BAL still has a lot of catching up to do. I sincerely hope Bajaj doesnt kill another one of their high selling brands after Boxer, Caliber, CT100. Long Live Discover!

I tested a Discover 100 DTS Si myself, and these were some of my observations:

1. Low end torque alongwith the low weight created an excellent feeling all-together, in city riding. The 1st gear startup from signal will be great for the owners...

2. The 5th gear was very useful in the city, with the bike picking up cleanly from speeds as low as 25 kmph (speedo). (Solo, no pillion)

3. From Low end to midrange, the smoothness was worth applauding. Upto 50 kmph in top gear, no complaints.

4. Suspension was smooth, somewhat the same as Platina.

5. The bike impressed me. From all the 4 stroke 100cc's I ever tested (Passion, Centra, Discover, Splendor and Platina) I would gladly choose Discover only, based on the city ride comfort... (Although, I didn't test Honda Twister as yet!).

However, After Sales Service might be the reason one might differ... Anyways Bajaj Auto, Best of Luck with the Sales.

Hi,
Bajaj has been consistently trying to tune its strategy and hence all its previous efforts 125cc bike at 100cc price (they thought they could wean away those 100cc ppl but it never was able to ) at one point of time they told wold not be in 100cc at all but the downturn changed that altogether. Bajaj sales crashed ( i even remember reading monthly moterbike sales < 1L ). That is what forced them to rrethink on 100cc's.India is not yet a matured market and so if you launch a product ahead of time, chances are it will not work (in the general commuter segment,). But this time they have got it right and its sales are picking up sharply (monthly >2.3L but HH is still the leader monthly around 3.7L )
Same reason XCD was killed. Its difficult ito invest in a new brand altogether and grow it too. bajaj realized it and so its investing on 2 brands (discover and pulsar ) and launching various models such that it wound cannabilize each other. Now they have two clear cut segments commuter and performance.
