Talking Sales Record: Discover DTS Si 100cc

Quote:
Two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto today said it has set a record by selling 5,00,000-units of its new model Discover DTS-Si in 225 days.

The auto-giant's new offering in the 100 cc segment has also carved a leadership position in West Bengal and the entire North-East region by becoming the highest selling brand in the overall two-wheeler category, a company press release stated here.

"The twin successes of the 100cc Discover DTS-Si and also the recently-launched Pulsar 135 LS has boosted our marketshare to 27.3 per cent in February," Bajaj Auto's Chief Executive Oficer (Two Wheeler) S Sridhar said.

"We were unable to meet the demand in February and there was a stock-out situation in some dealerships," Sridhar added.
Discover DTS-Si was launched in July last year. The company has already ramped-up production from the earlier 75,000 units to 1-lakh units per month to meet demand, the release said.

Bajaj Discover DTS-Si Electric is available in five colors at Rs 41,736 (ex-showroom Delhi price).
Hmmm... A Sales Record of 5 Lac units, in 225 days?

It seems "giving 125cc's for 100's price" wasn't working out for Bajaj.
Maybe because the common man associates 125cc bikes, with slightly lower mileage, no matter what's inside.

Thumbs up

Congrats to Bajaj. It is really a great achievement. After failing with 125cc at 100 cc price, Bajaj hit the right chord with Discover 100cc.

The thing with bajaj is, whenever they launch a new bike (CT 100, platina etcc) they sell in HUUUUGE no's in the starting months, but I dont understand why the sales gradually decline steeply.

Few years back when the CT100 was launched it was selling like hot cakes for few months, then the sales declined so steeply that they had to stop the production (correct me if im wrong).

There is a difference this time:

>> For the CT100 and the Platina the USP was a LOW Price and good features (like alloys etc.)

>> For the XCD 125, the USP was the promise of unbelievable mileage, with a 125 cc engine, at a price equal to 100 cc bikes.

But this time, the USP is the "Discover Brand" that is pulling in the sales; despite being a 100 cc engine and being priced similar to the other 100 cc competition.

Product features can be copied (alloys, self start now are on every other bike) and pricing can be matched (the CD Deluxe and CD Dawn are lower priced)..

..but sustainable business comes from the strong BRANDS (another example which sell because of its brand name is Splendor).
