  • Ever Heard of a Temple for Motor Bike? Here It is!

    Bullet Baba Ki Jai Ho!

When a Bullet motorcycle is treated as a deity in Pali district,it can raise eyebrows.Prakash Bhandari finds out what it takes to kick-start this unique place of worship...

The wind was a torrent of darkness upon the gusty trees,The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,The road was a ribbon of moonlight looping the purple moor,And the highwayman came riding- Riding - riding - The highwayman came riding,up to the old inn door....

One may have heard of temples dedicated to cows, filmstars and politicians. But this temple in Pali district is unique. Its a one-of-its-kind temple in the world that has a mobike as its deity. Here mobike is being worshipped and Bhopa and Bhopis sing paean in the name of the person who owned the mobike a Royal Enfield.
The bullet rider Om Singh of Chotila village is no less than the God here. The temple located between Jodhpur and Pali at a place Bamdai,20 km from Rohetgarh is thronged by devotees from nearby villages. They all offer puja for safe journey.
It all started 22 years ago when Om Singh,25,was returning from Pali on his Bullet. The bike skidded and hit a tree killing him on the spot. The pillion rider Narpat Singh suffered minor injuries.Oms wife was pregnant when the incident occurred.A few months later, the family was blessed with a son.
Om Bana as he was popularly known in the area was like any other normal person. He was wellmannered and loved by all.How Om Bana became God overnight is an interesting story.According to villagers, some people in the village dreamt that Om was alive. They saw him riding a mobike.Following a series of supposedly paranormal events after Banas death, the locals planted the motorcycle at the scene of the accident and deified Bana.
After the death of Om,the motor bike was kept in the custody of Rohetgarh police station. However, people say that the motorbike was found at the accident spot the next morning,Police initially thought it was a prank and after emptying the fuel tank they kept the bike in their custody, this time tying it with chains.but the next day,the chains were found broken and the motorcycle was back at the accident spot, said Mavendra Singh Rohet, who owns the famous Rohet fort.
Gradually the story spread like a wild fire in the surrounding area.People started pouring in to visit the accident site asking for details of the accident.People of the area built a platform on the spot where the death occurred and started offering pujas.
The mobike, after its release from the police custody, was placed there and people started worshipping it.Its treated like a deity.Devotees apply tilak and tie red thread on the handle. The mobike soon became symbolic of Om Bana.Pictures of his wedding day were displayed in the shops and cassette and albums containing songs in praise of Om Bana topped the charts, says Rohet.
Bana was drunk when he met with an accident and died.Drivers who pass through the road, stop and offer a small bottle of liquor to the mobike samadhi praying for a safe journey.People from far and near come to pray here, said Som Singh, cousin of Om Bana.

            Interesting piece of news this!

Drinking & riding is a strict no no, but the outcome here is unique. The guy died, & is now being worshipped! & offered liquor too.

            Crazy nation ours.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.
