Default India made KTM 125 makes a strong debut in Europe

Link: My Digital "Financial Chronicle"

KTM Duke 125, the offroad racing bike (God..!! The 125 Duke is NOT an offroad bike..!!) from the Bajaj Auto-KTM Sportmotorcycle AG stable, has sold 612 units in May, the second month since its launch, in the European market, making it the fourth best seller bike in its segment.

Its rivals in the same segment, Yamaha YBR 125 sold 791 units, Honda CBF 125 sold 743 units and Yamaha YZF 125 sold 695 units in May, in the European markets. “We’re excited with the market response in Europe and are expecting to become the market leader soon,” S Ravi Kumar, VP - business development, Bajaj Auto, told Financial Chronicle.

Priced competitively at €4,000, KTM Duke 125 is primarily sold in Germany, France, the UK, Austria and Italy. In May 2011, the bike grabbed 26 per cent market share in Europe while Yamaha YBR 125 and Honda CBR 125 clocked 33.2 per cent and 31.2 per cent market share, respectively.

The bike has been jointly developed by Bajaj Auto and KTM and is manufactured by Bajaj Auto at its Chakan plant near Pune. “The next model from the same platform for the Indian market is in an advanced stage of development and will be launched later this year,” Kumar said. The same model is also planned for export to the far east Asian markets, he said.

In April, KTM Duke 125 sold 68 units while Yamaha YZF 125 sold 743 units, Honda CBF 125 sold 722 units and Yamaha YBR 125 sold 712 units. Kumar said Bajaj Auto had increased its equity stake in KTM, headquartered in Austria, from 15 per cent in 2007 to a little under 40 per cent at present.

That's good! We don't have any Off-roaders in India. But ironically, all our bikes are off-road capable, we do offroading everyday ^_^. Even Lunar riding!

And woah 4000 Euros? That's like 3+ Lakh rupees :O

The price at which Stunners and Dukes are sold there, we could buy a CBR250 or a Ninja 250R at that price here

Dukes are not offroaders man, they are street fighters.

and CB125 (stunner) which is sold there at ~2k is the FI version.

Maxabout classifies it as an offroad bike! Many other websites do the same too. And it even looks like one! Even it's tires are kinda offroad looking! The whole thing looks like a Hi-tech Moto-cross bike!

"Maxabout" is one of the WORST sites out there. The others which you must have browsed are no better.

That's because its deliberately dressed up to mimic an off road bike.

Duke's (990 Super Duke, 690 Duke and now the 125 Duke) are Street Bikes from the "Off Road Specialist" KTM.

Tyres on this bike are certainly not for offroading!!

It's good to know that Duke 125 is making it's presence felt in a very good manner. It might soon become best selling 125 in Europe once it's available all over Europe.

“The next model from the same platform for the Indian market is in an advanced stage of development and will be launched later this year,” Kumar said.

And that's what we are waiting for.. bring it on
