Talking FMSCI approves official drag racing in India.

India finally gets to drag race - Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India officially introduces Drag Racing in the country

Racing enthusiasts will be excited to learn that Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India has introduced Drag Racing for the first time in India. Drag racing, in simpler terms means, driving your car or riding your bike from point A to B wherein the fastest driver/rider to reach finish the job, wins the race. Drag racing is said to be both simple yet exhilarating and is capable of testing the driver to maximum limits.
Drag Racing is very famous in US and Europe. It is now being introduced to India under the guidance of Federation of Motor Sports of India through organizers namely Spitfire Motorsports and Speedway Motorsports. Mr. Vicky Chandok, President of FMSCI said that this is the first time such championships have been organized officially in India, though unofficially, such races have been already taking part across the country.
The first official drag racing in India will feature a 400 meter strip along which two cars or two bikes will race alongside. A record is maintained of speed and reaction time of each driver. The race is scheduled at Hyderabad for the coming weekend. Coimbatore and Bangalore will also have a chance during the coming months to witness the event.

So finally, bikers can openly say that they have participated in a legal drag race and they have the experience. It's a great news, but with this new challenges might be uncovered. The first challenge being the space required, which is easier to find in some cities than others. The second being the framing of the rules.
But this is anyways a great news, and bikers can add to their experience while enjoying the race relatively safer than earlier, physically as well as legally.

Motorcycling itself is inherently dangerous hobby. Aren't you still doing it?

Any kind of motorsports is dangerous. FMSCI sanctioning official drag racing would be the best thing to happen to drag racing. At least sufficient safety arrangements would be mandatory. Just check out their regulations -

Better than drag racing on public roads.

BTW, I am not a drag racer / have never participated in one / have never seen one.

@satyamzma on a closed track, and a moderately souped up vehicle. Yes.

When you start pushing the limits is when it gets risky.

I think this is a great idea... but should it be 402 meters or something ( quarter mile ). And the drag strip should be around 1.6-2kms in length ( For longer drags of 1km or more ).

Great news. But this is again for teams and is an official championship, rather than for individuals

^^ Yeah but im sure they wont mind renting the track out to individuals or events.. Cant build a track for lakhs and crores, and keep it for 2-3 main events only.

This is nice.. A good test area to check your vehicle top speed, acceleration etc!!
