  • Yamaha to produce global motorcycles in India: xBhp News

Yamaha has planned to manufacture motorcycles meant for the global market including Japan, Europe and America, to be developed and produced here.

Hiroyuki Yanagi , president and CEO of Yamaha Motor Co

"India is a low-cost market , but we are not looking at just that. We want to develop sporty and stylish models from here and these would be for European markets and Asian markets,"
The company wants to develop and manufacture commuter bikes in the 100-200cc range. These bikes will then be sent across the globe. Currently the R 15 and FZ 16 is being exported out of India.

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) sold 4.9 lakh units in 2012, out of which 1.4 lakh units were exports. The company expects India to be its top 5 market within the next 2 years.

Yamaha also aims to make the cheapest bike available with a target of a no frills Rs 27000/- bike. The company's 5th overseas R&D plant was recently started at Surajpur.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.
