Bajaj Auto threw down the gauntlet on Tuesday, stating that it will be ahead of its archrival TVS Motor, despite the sales gap narrowing between the two. The company, which is the country’s second largest two-wheeler maker by sales, will launch 7-8 new models or upgrades this year in the two-wheeler segment.
“If you see figures of the total year the distance is very large. But, it was only in a couple of months where the distance went down. If you see the whole year, we were far ahead of TVS and we expect to be far ahead this year also,” Bajaj Auto Vice Chairman, Madhur Bajaj told ET. He was in Chennai on Tuesday in connection with the inauguration of the new campus of Great Lakes Institute of Management. Recent data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), suggested that while TVS and Bajaj reported a fall in sales in 2008-09, the fall was steeper in Bajaj’s case, where sales dropped by nearly a quarter, as opposed to TVS, which lost sales by more than a percent. This contrast made TVS inch closer to Bajaj. “As far as the auto industry is concerned, because of Hero Honda , it ended up plus, though it was a marginal plus. This year we expect the position to become better. We are coming out with 7-8 new models or upgrades and expect to generate a lot of interest through these,” Mr Bajaj said. About the three-wheeler segment, Mr Bajaj said, “Its unfortunate that three-wheeler market is dictated by licenses issued by the State government. Many of the cities are not issuing further permits. But, what is important is that the world is recognising the importance of three wheelers. Latin America and Nigeria have been welcoming, they see it as a cheap mode of transport for goods and passengers.” According to a recent report by Angel Broking, while Bajaj Auto still tops the passenger auto-rickshaw segment, its dwindling volumes was because of its concentration in the cities and limited presence in the rural segment. Apart from product launches, the company would give a thrust to financing through its auto financing arm and dealerships, especially in rural areas. So, 7-8 models. Let's assume the bottom figure (7):--> XCD 135, P150 UG4, P180 UG4, What next? P220, P200, still, 2 more? KTM or Ninja maybe?

this is crap man......... the guy himself was not confident that it was upgrades or new models............ only talkin n talkin n talkin n talkin........
man does bringing 100 models make any sense ............... BAJAJ if u listening ............ just bring out 2 - 3 different models which define quality in all the segments.......... if that is their prime motto.... in 100cc... 150cc.... 125cc.... n pls gimme a break....... stop starting n ending on pulsar series man...... something new is needed!!!!....... and then give out a sports bike ..... competitor to r15 .......... otherwise if rtr180 is launched this gap will be high ........... n bajaj will sell only autos

Yep, and it will be sold under a different brand name. (Because Bajaj does not want people to think that the company that sells the mighty Pulsars also sells puny 100cc bikes.... Sheesh!) Bajaj, cut the bullshit and tell me. Where is the Ninja?? :x |

I was a fan of Bajaj because of their enticing products & innovation but now they dont have anything to offer except that stale Pulsar range. What i feel is that either Bajaj is fully concentrating on their small car or they dont enough fund to develop any new product. Mr.Rajiv... I said before also & telling again "you are losing the game".

The greatest Hope of Bajaj is thier LPG Platina which is been planned to be released in this year
Thier only 100cc bike which is gonna make a revolution in the Two Wheeler Industry... If it clicks then all the mileage freaks will opt for Platina LPG .... Its pretty much sure that most of the Bike freaks has lost Hope on Pulsars ... whatever they release in it --- too much of Pulsars will spoil the Scenario... I believe tvs does also have plans for thier Existing 100cc Star with the LPG Version...
