  • Bajaj Auto says it will beat TVS Motor

Bajaj Auto threw down the gauntlet on Tuesday, stating that it will be ahead of its archrival TVS Motor, despite the sales gap narrowing between the two. The company, which is the country’s second largest two-wheeler maker by sales, will launch 7-8 new models or upgrades this year in the two-wheeler segment.
“If you see figures of the total year the distance is very large. But, it was only in a couple of months where the distance went down. If you see the whole year, we were far ahead of TVS and we expect to be far ahead this year also,” Bajaj Auto Vice Chairman, Madhur Bajaj told ET. He was in Chennai on Tuesday in connection with the inauguration of the new campus of Great Lakes Institute of Management.
Recent data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), suggested that while TVS and Bajaj reported a fall in sales in 2008-09, the fall was steeper in Bajaj’s case, where sales dropped by nearly a quarter, as opposed to TVS, which lost sales by more than a percent. This contrast made TVS inch closer to Bajaj.
“As far as the auto industry is concerned, because of Hero Honda , it ended up plus, though it was a marginal plus. This year we expect the position to become better. We are coming out with 7-8 new models or upgrades and expect to generate a lot of interest through these,” Mr Bajaj said.
About the three-wheeler segment, Mr Bajaj said, “Its unfortunate that three-wheeler market is dictated by licenses issued by the State government. Many of the cities are not issuing further permits. But, what is important is that the world is recognising the importance of three wheelers. Latin America and Nigeria have been welcoming, they see it as a cheap mode of transport for goods and passengers.”
According to a recent report by Angel Broking, while Bajaj Auto still tops the passenger auto-rickshaw segment, its dwindling volumes was because of its concentration in the cities and limited presence in the rural segment.
Apart from product launches, the company would give a thrust to financing through its auto financing arm and dealerships, especially in rural areas.

this year in the two-wheeler segment.

Now, this is the main part I say. Rest is all Bajaj's assumption about what may happen.

So, 7-8 models. Let's assume the bottom figure (7):-->

      XCD 135,
      P150 UG4,
      P180 UG4,

      What next?
      P220,
      P200,

still, 2 more? KTM or Ninja maybe?

Why not Hero Honda ? I guess Bajaj was very close to HH in mid 2006, why did Bajaj lose the steam

I remember reading somewhere that one of the new Bajaj launches this year will be a low-end extremely affordable 100c motorcycle.

Yep, and it will be sold under a different brand name. (Because Bajaj does not want people to think that the company that sells the mighty Pulsars also sells puny 100cc bikes.... Sheesh!)

Bajaj, cut the bullshit and tell me. Where is the Ninja?? :x
              You get the point?? :D

I was a fan of Bajaj because of their enticing products & innovation but now they dont have anything to offer except that stale Pulsar range.

What i feel is that either Bajaj is fully concentrating on their small car or they dont enough fund to develop any new product.

Mr.Rajiv... I said before also & telling again "you are losing the game".

Somewhere ... someway, Bajaj lost the way and plot ... both. Its high time they tried to recover it and keep it with them rather then basking arrogantly in the glory again.

The greatest Hope of Bajaj is thier LPG Platina which is been planned to be released in this year

Thier only 100cc bike which is gonna make a revolution in the Two Wheeler Industry... If it clicks then all the mileage freaks will opt for Platina LPG ....

Its pretty much sure that most of the Bike freaks has lost Hope on Pulsars ... whatever they release in it --- too much of Pulsars will spoil the Scenario...

I believe tvs does also have plans for thier Existing 100cc Star with the LPG Version...

They are already up and above all the companies except HH which sells millions and zillions of 97ccs...

After Bajaj went down to 67k bikes in oct or nov 08, they have consistently managed to sell more than a lakh bikes and last month they sold 1 lakh 30 k bikes....!

whereas TVS has been selling 40-60k bikes per month...

                      and HMSI, 35 - 45k bikes

                      yamaha, 14-19ks...

where does bajaj want to beat TVS then....

PS- Above figures are only for "BIKES" and doesnt include scooters and mopeds...!

Its not clear what exactly. A model or upgrade may be a scooter too. After super flop crystal (oops, krystal), I think bajaj will try to fight with TVS in scooter segment, not bikes.

Bajaj needs to realise quantity is not equal to quality. They have been wading in mediocrity for far too long now. For a honest effort by mr rajiv bajaj & his team who conceived the pulsar as a sports bikes, they have lost the plot in between. I sincerely hope that they get back on track and introduce some ground breaking products rather than doling out mediocrity. Otherwise it won't be too long when the top 4 manufacturers will consists of only foriegn brands(won't consider HH since they rely on Honda for engines and R&D.) And rather than home-grown companies fighting it out amongst themselves i think it would be better for them if they concentrate on the foriegn competiton from the likes of Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda who are lightyears ahead of them in terms of technology and R&D.

IMO the Pulsar series are not sport bikes, they are sporty commuters. And in that segment, Pulsars sell pretty well! They now need to launch proper sport bikes like the Ninja or KTM derived bikes in the pipeline. And as far as beating TVS is concerned, Bajaj need not worry. It is Honda & HH and their unending permutations and combinations of cycle parts and engines that Bajaj needs to be wary about.
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

So True!! People have fallen prey to this tactic employed Honda, time and again. And finally desi manufacturers have to slog it out hard to get the bike's features-performance-looks right whereas a simple yet pansy sticker job from Honda continue to give them the numbers they want!!
