Need help in deciding between Intruder 1800 and HD 48

Turning 40 soon. Intend to splurge that last bit of reserve on a kick-ass machine. Undecided between the Suzuki Intruderr M1800R and the HD Sportster 48. A tough tussle between Japanese Tech/reliability and American Iconic Brand Image. Need some serious opinion on which one would turn out to be the whiter of the two elephants.

True, that. And what if your still spoiled for choices? What i really need to know is which one of the two would be a more practical choice, A life-long relationship, something more than a one night stand. Lets say 20 years down the line people look up and say, Damn, that thing between your legs still looks awesome.

You could wait a little a get the Triumph Thunderbird. They are not too far away from what I've been reading in the news.

What i really need to know is which one of the two would be a more practical choice, A life-long relationship, something more than a one night stand. Lets say 20 years down the line people look up and say, Damn, that thing between your legs still looks awesome.

HDs in my opinion will withstand time more than the suzuki. 20yrs down the line the suzuki may not even be relevant whereas HDs already have a legacy.

Other than the above consideration, the suzuki is a nice choice.

48 vs Intruder, These choices don't really match.
48 - Ex showroom 9l
Intruder - Ex showroom 16l
(I am not precise about the prices)

Intruder is obvious choice in these (for me) as its a way better performer with 1783cc, 160nm torque and better looking compared to 48's 1202cc, 98nm torque..

The right match according to me would be :
HD Fatboy vs Intruder!
Then without a second thought, I would say Fatboy with 1584cc, 126nm torque.
Speaking about 20 years down the line? Fatboy is just evergreen..There is nothing like the Fatboy.

I mean, Who doesn't remember Terminator's Arnold riding the Fatboy and go WOW !?


p.s: Excuse my enthusiasm, i am a die hard fan of the Fatboy.

The prices quoted are pretty much thereabouts. Did a bit of soul searching and the 48 and Intruderr were the ones I'd narrowed it down to. Yes, the i do agree Fatboy is one mean machine, and yes, Arnie does look like an extension of the Bike itself. Thanks, mate, for your valuable input.

Have to agree, am a bit inclined towards the HD myself, One of the reasons being a plethora of mods on offer. Many Thanks, much appreciate your valuable opinion.

Just checked out pics & specs of the Triumph Thunderbird. Have to admit, she's a looker. Plan to make my purchase around Dec '13. I hear the Victory machines will also be made an available option by then. Thanks, Rajpal for your valuable inputs.

20 yrs... err... seems a tall claim... suzuki will certainly not last that long... hd perhaps just might... triumph, in all probability will...
if u r considering these machines, why not also consider the ducati diavel & the yamaha v-max too?
just a thought!

One of my friends has 2 Ducati's. The orgasmic Diavel and a Hypermotard.

The Diavel is one fine machine, I've to agree. He had this custom painted white and it looks just awesome.

Came across a couple of Intruders at Bangalore and they look....ummm....different. I did take a second glance at the Intruder the first time I it, but that was all
As far as the FatBob was concerned - I followed it for a full kilometer in peak hour traffic and reached office 30 mins late - that says it all
However, I have to accept, spec wise, the Intruder is insanely mean.

Originl plan was for the HD 48, test rode one too, at the local dealership in Cochin. Very helpful chaps there I must admit.. However, happened to chance upon a Fat Bob. It was lust at first sight. There were no second thoughts, made the down payment right away. Now all there's left to do is twiddle my thumbs and wait untill November. Then I terrorize my pesky neighbour.
