Default Holi pe Auli.!!

Introduction:

It was last year when I saw this beautiful place on Google.I was amazed by its beauty,so decided to go there but don't know when? Oneday I asked Manan bhai that can we go Auli,he replied yes why not but not in extreme winters roads will be full of Ice.I asked so when he said Holi pe Auli..!! done.So I was waiting for Holi eagerly before Auli ride,I did Kumaon trip (Solo Ride to Gorgeous Kumaon (V-20.10)) to have some experience.

All planing, maps, route stoppages decided and we where ready to go.This time we were going Garhwal,Auli

Auli, (alt. 2915 mts-3049 mts ):
is an important ski destination in the Himalayan mountains of Uttarakhand, India. Auli is known as 'Bugyal' in the regional language which means meadow. In fact some French and Australian experts said that Auli is comparable to the best ski resorts in the world. Auli is less known ski destination than Shimla, Gulmarg or Manali. It was only in the recent time, after the creation of new state Uttarakhand(formerly Uttaranchal) carved out from Uttar Pradesh, Auli was marketed as Tourist Destination. The state is called "Dev Bhoomi" which means "Land of Gods" as there are important pilgrimage destination in this state mainly the 'CHAR DHAM' (Gangotri-Yamunotri-Kedarnath-Badrinath). Auli lies on the way to Badrinath. Auli is blessed with a breathtaking panoramic view of the lofty peaks of the greatest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas. The slopes here provide enough thrill to professional skier and novoice as well. The Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited (GMVNL) a govt agency which takes care of this resort have imported snow beater to maintain slopes. Auli also boasts the Asia's longest - 4 km - cable car (Gondola). It also has a Chair Lift and a Ski-Lift. Apart from Skiing there is an interesting trek route also. There is a training facility of Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

Wonderful stuff Manan and Zayn. And quite a hilarious, but apt title as well. Me likes. I can't wait to look at the Auli photographs. It has been eons now that I have wanted to travel to Auli, but never quite managed to materialize the plan. Perhaps, looking at this log and the photographs, I will ride to Auli very soon.

Kudos to both of you, for doing this, that too during the season of Holi. Bring on the log and photographs now. Soon!

@Zayn: I have removed the bold formatting from your text. Post your log in normal text. That increases the legibility of the text. Titles/ Sub-titles can ofcourse be kept in bold.

Thanks,
-Aryan.

Day-1

I woke at 3am got fresh and gave call to Manan bhai.
I left home at 3:30,put the bike on idling,up-up and away.
Maintained a constant speed of 60kmph to reach Hapur toll
where we(Manan & Zayn) were meeting.I reach Hapur toll at
4am after 20mins Manan bhai arrived. We both decided to go
early to avoid traffic at NH-24.We took long route because
NH-58 is full of insane drivers.

Meeting Point

So we started our journey at 4:30am at that time NH-24
was trucker paradise. So decided to maintained a speed of
70kmph and ride bike in left side of the road, man the sound
those truck were creating by their tires can make person deaf.
Fog did not trouble us as we had expected. We had a few
patches of bad roads near Garhganga that slowed us down
for a few minutes. So it was time to stop at Manan bhai's
Mansi dhaba after having breakfast when Manan bhai offer money
to the Dhaba keeper he didn't accept the money from
Manan bahi....It was going to be 6am and we had only
covered 103kms from meeting point. Now roads from here was
awesome. The red hue in the eastern sky indicated the approaching
dawn and I looked forward to a day of riding along the highways
and soon the twisties in the Himalayas.

Dawn

We took a U-turn from Moradabadh to go Kaladungi
but the roads where bumpy. After crossing Tanda we
saw a this and stop.

Then move ahead thinking that that we are behind
the schedule. We reach Jim corbit stop and click some
pics there and some creative shots too.

We started climbing up after Neya village.Reach at point
where we feel like Mogli but Manan bhai become Mogli
acrobatic shots

Time 9am and we still not at Nanital we were seriously
behind the time after riding through those twisters we
reach Nanital at 10:30am time was kill the fun.Cold wind
was blowing through Nainital and warm sun rays making
us feel like taking a nap...

Naini Lake

After Nainital we both decided to cross Almora really fast.
We were back on the usual smooth roads of Almora soon enjoyed
our ride along the twisties and the breathtaking sceneries as we
climbed higher and higher into the Himalayas. We saw a Gori River
flowing parallel to the road and decided to stop again.

Gori River

Again Acrobatic Manan

Resting Helmet

Now reach Almora at 12pm bikes
where running rich so we both decided to tune it lean there.
Manan bahi told mechanic to set its mixture setting he said
what is the problem he told him bike is running rich he said
ok "saas le rahi hai" he yes yes "wahai" problem he tuned our
bike within 1min time and now bikes where climbing hills very easily
But now I had a problem big problem my bike battery got completely discharged don't know how..? so decided to continue Now time was 12:30pm we were hungry so decided to have some parathas. Suddenly white Scropio stop at restaurant after staring us for 10-15mins and our bike he started asking questions

Man:where are you coming from
We:Lajpat Nagar 4
Man:I am coming from Rohini Delhi
We: ok good
Man:kiney din lage yaha tak??
We: started our journey today morning
Man:Seriously.Where are you going? It took us 1.5 day to reach here 400kms
We:Auli
Man:Can you reach today?
We:yes ok we need to go
Man:yes but 1 photo with me please
We: ok

We were like celebrity at that point of time... Got ready and of to Karnpryag which was approx 90-100kms from there and time was 1:30pm.It was clear that we had to do night riding to reach Joshimath,my first time in life never did night riding in hills. We take Gwaldham route to reach Karnpryag this route is ok but Gwaldham is a place to see awesome place with no tourist but it has hotels to stay.

En-Route Karnpyag

Gwaldham

Road of Gwaldham

It was 4pm and we still haven't reach our destination from
here Karanapryag was 80kms and roads where very narrow.
In uttarakhand Holi is celebrated for 6days.So that day was
Holi and some Hooligans were blocking road we some how
mange to come out of that.We reach Karnapryag at 6pm here
we had evening tea now time was 6:30pm and it was dark.
It was my first time doing night riding in hills. Deserted mountains
where looking scary when Moon beam was falling on them as if
they will eat you.My suggestion to newbies don't look at the
mountain while riding you will end up doing something wrong.

We stop at Pipalkoti at 7:30pm where we had dinner we met
a man who was coming from Topovan and going delhi his car fuel injector was
not working so he directly connected fuel supply to the engine.
After having dinner it was time to reach Joshimath so leave
pipalkoti at 8pm my dinner got digested after seeing route from
pipalkoti it was full of Hair-pins bends and I was left alone
sometime because Manan bhai was an expert rider where it
was my first time and when I look into my rear view mirror I
see nothing accept black.

We reach joshimath at 9pm it was like 2am in joshimath there
was none out except platoon of dogs roaming here and there
and chasing our bikes. The main road is dotted with hotels and
dhabas on both sides as you enter Joshimath. We checked into
one close to the ticket booth for the GMVN ropeway and settled
in for the night.

Total distance covered: 630kms

Route taken: Home - Gujraula -Bajpur - Nainital - Almora - Kausani - Bajnath - Gwaldham - Karanapryag - Pipalkoti - Joshimath.
