I had been planning a ride to kaas for a while now. I informed a few guys, and surprisingly the word spread fast and we had a group of 15 riders in for the ride. The plan was to leave from mumbai on Saturday afternoon, stay at satara for the night, and visit the plateau early the next morning before the crowd comes in.
With a huge group came a lot of delays, that included traffic snarls while getting out of mumbai, 2 punctures near pune, hour long snack breaks and dinner breaks and a lot of breaks in between for people to re-group. It took a whopping 13 hours to reach satara. my slowest ride till date.
Besides the unexpected delays, most of this route was pretty boring, being part of the GQ. There's not much to write about the roads, so i'll skip directly to the pictures.
The road to kaas starts climbing uphill right from satara, it has a lot of wonderful views along the way.
A few km into this road, and you reach a viewpoint that overlooks the lake and plains below.
This is where you also get the first sight of the flowers. they keep increasing in numbers as you near the top of the plateau.
As we moved further, we reached a point that had a panoramic view of the entire plateau.
And there was some dam visible as well, i am not sure what was the name
From here onwards you get to see what they mean by carpet of flowers. There were patches of different coloured flowers. From yelllow, to blue, to pink, and even some white buds.
A little further, the amount of flowers increases so much that the entire landscape looks pink.
There were also many patches with white buds that are yet to bloom. This place probably needs a visit again in 2 weeks.
Last but not least, here's the reason that this trip was possible
I have some more pictures as well, which i will post later
