  • [Photo Feature]: For the Love of the Road - Best roads in Karnataka

Road trips are well, meant for ‘The Road’, the urge to ride just for ‘The Road’ is something I can’t reason for and in spite of the numerous road trips I still haven’t figured it out nor has the urge diminished.

There was only one agenda for this ride - Roads

Riders : Sharath (hifisharu) and yours truly

    Steeds: CBR250 and R1

Route: Bangalore - Hassan - Belur - Hassan - Madikeri (via Gorur) - Bangalore

    Road Conditions:

    1) NH48: Bangalore(Nelamangala) to Belur Cross - Excellent (4- way delight )
    2) NH 48: Hassan - Chanarayanapatna (CR patna) - OK (Single lane with lots of diversions, Nightmare to ride at Night)
    3) CR Patna to Hassan - OK (Single Lane with better heads-up for diversions )
    4) Hassan to Belur - Excellent (is an understatement, one of the best in India)
    5) Hassan to Madikeri (via Gorur) - Pathetic ( not at recommended, took me 4 hrs to cover 115kms)
    6) SH 88: Madikeri - Mysore - Excellent (is an understatement, one of the best in India)
    7) Mysore to Bangalore - Good ( Worst road sense traffic coupled with surprises(road humps)

Here is an ode to some of the best and scenic roads in Karnataka:

    NH48 - Nelmangala to Kunigal

    Breakfast at Hassan

The Steeds soaking in the road

Thank you UNESCO for this road

Sharath trying his best to hide the excitement after riding on this stretch

    The R1 Smiling

    Corned :P

    CBR 250 - Such a beautiful motorcycle

Couldnt resist the Trail near Somvarpet

Just before Madikeri - after 100kms of painful roads

    Twilight on SH88

    SH88 - What a fantastic road !!!

Trust me the photos don’t do the justice, you gotta hit these roads hard to feel what I am saying.

    Go ahead, start tripping !!!!

Needless to say that NH4 passing through KA is one of the good roads.
Do you guys have the rear of both the bikes taken together ?

Aargee - The only section of NH4 involved was from Blore to Nelamangala (hardly 25kms)..

This was mostly NH48 and SH88 and SH17

        @Srikeerthi - Thanks for approval

Ajay- Perfect heading and perfect ride. Like they say- One For The Road.
Nice pics, but yeh dil maange more

Halebid & Belur are just fabulous. Each place needs about 2 hours with a guide (highly recommended for Rs 150-200 for each guide). So basically one day is more than sufficient for both including the travel time between both places, photos ops etc, but worth every penny you spend.
